Re: Entertainment district proposed at Sports complex

The weekday family crowd will benefit from the downtown park as well.  The current Eastside location is really only conducive to families from the Eastside going to weekday ballgames.  Ever try and commute home to the West in rush hour, pack up the wife and kids, drive another 45minutes to an hour...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

When I first saw this cut away and noticed the open spaces on the tops both over the skyboxes and in the ends, my immediate guess was that they had designed this such that additional nose bleed tiers could be built in at a later date.

Re: Born and raised suburbanite moving downtown

As much as I would like to be able to be able to take a nice efficient relaxing ride to work rather than driving, I don't know that this would be a very practical trip.  By the time I bike to the stop, wait, ride, transfer a time or two, wait again, ride some more, bike - I would turn what's probabl...

Re: Entertainment district proposed at Sports complex

But the Royals don't profit off of bar sales. And if you think attendance will go up simply because there are bars around the K, I think you are sorely mistaken. People go to see winning teams, not to visit the ESPN Sportszone next door. Oh contrare - take a look at our neighbors to the West in Den...

Re: Entertainment district proposed at Sports complex

I really like this idea because I love the K, and dont' want to see it left empty simply because some feel it is needed for downtown development (it is not), but dangerboy is right, it is going to be very challenging to make this successful. Its not an issue of needing the ballpark for downtown dev...

Re: Born and raised suburbanite moving downtown

The Jo might get me out of downtown but unfortunately it won't get me very close to work.  After a transfer, I could probably get dumped somewhere on 87th, leaving me a nice long walk accross a few toroughfares and rail lines.  The car will have to stay with me for now.

Re: Entertainment district proposed at Sports complex

Still, there is a huge market that we are just beginning to tap out there. If we can bring everyone out of the burbs, there should be enough people for Village West, Power and Light, Crossroads, Westport, the Plaza AND TSC. Plus, many people (like me) will visit all of them. You left out , Zona Ros...

Re: Entertainment district proposed at Sports complex

Thats just it, there aren't many "soccer moms" living anywere near TSC.  Were are these kids going to come from that are going to play at the athletic facility?  By the time this could be done, all of the other destination retail/entertainment districts will have snatched up every draw ret...

Re: Entertainment district proposed at Sports complex

This is exactly what I have been picturing that they need to do with TSC for a couple of years.  Ufortunately I think they are about 4 years too late with their plan.  How would this development compete with the other dozen or more outdoor destination shopping/entertainment locations that will have ...

Re: Born and raised suburbanite moving downtown

I have a heck of a time motivating myself to run or walk to nowhere.  If the only motive to get out on foot is excercise it seems to fall on my subconscious priority list.  If I have a practical destination like the market or bar  I don't even think twice about heading out on foot.  Somehow ...

Re: P&L District: 12th & Main Site Proposal

Be careful what you breath in.  A buddy of mine who works in a neighboring building was visiting with one of the demolition engineers awhile back and he told him that the inside of Jones is one big mass of toxic mold.

Re: Born and raised suburbanite moving downtown

Yeah, I am a little nervous about what affect having the Fiorellas' smoker right outside the window will have on my waistline.  Good thing there is a gym in the basement.  I am very excited about having a bar/restaurant or two and even a produce market within walking distance.  I lived in Europe for...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

True.  There aren't really many noteworthy arena buildings out there in the first place.  I think this thing is striking enough that people will talk about it outside of KC which is a heck of a lot more than can be said about most arenas.  Personally I thinksome of the renderings are much more attra...

I agree, most of the new arrivals probably won't even have kids.  But they will vote.

Re: Born and raised suburbanite moving downtown

Yep they are  lease with a rent to own option down the road.  They are run by these folks: www.kcloftcentral.com .   They seem to run half the for-rent lofts downtown.   We looked at all of their other spots but settled on this one as we felt it had the most authentic loft feel with the exposed...

Re: Kids and Families in the City

I think it will be fascinating to see what effect the increasing inflow of upper middle class white folks to the central core of the city will have on the central KCMO public schools.  I can see it going eiter two ways: 1) finally giving the schools the push needed to improve and shake off their cra...

Born and raised suburbanite moving downtown

After lurking for sometime I decided I finally had some news worthy of getting a username and posting.  The girlfriend and I have officially decided to move downtown.  We just secured a loft in the Stuart Hall building.  This will be quite a transition as I grew up in JoCo and spent most of my youth...
