Virtually a NEJOCO installation, really. Also, only access to/from the southbound lanes of 18th St Expwy / Roe? Weird!

Re: Lamp Post District - Mission, KS

That's good because I moved to Mission a few months ago and our parks range from almost non-existent grass squares to terrible. As it happens, I sit on the Parks, Recreation, and Trees commission (consists of citizens) and have at least a little bit of input as to how parks are maintained and impro...

Re: Twin Creeks

I've lived at 169 & 152 in the Northland as well as 135th & Pflumm in JoCo. Getting to/from the city from out south is soul crushing compared to the Northland drive. It's double the distance (although not always double the drive time), and IMO driving in outer Johnson County just plain sucks...

Re: Lamp Post District - Mission, KS

Just a summary update of the Mission Bowl apartments project. Since my last post above, the proposal has passed through the Planning hearing, Community Development Committee, and full Council with unanimous approval of the Preliminary Development Plan. Finance and Admin now to discuss tax incentives...

Bunch of workers showed up a week or two ago and took apart the crane. I think maybe they also repossessed some crated HVAC stuff that was on site but I'm not 100% sure of that. Sigh.

Re: Lamp Post District - Mission, KS

A preliminary development application was filed for the Mission Bowl site. The Planning Commission hearing will be 8/24 by Zoom. You can attend virtually or send written comments in advance. See missionks.org for details on that. A number of changes to the plan along with some new renderings. No big...

It's certainly getting mixed reviews around here, but I'm not afraid to say I like it.

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

City staff gave some more info about the financing pause on an unrelated Zoom call last evening. Apparently it is basically impossible to move the S.O. bonds right now due to interest rate restrictions and the covid-related fluctuations.

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Gateway construction has been suspended for 30 days due to concerns about maintaining appropriate separation of personnel for the COVID-19 outbreak. In the last month, major interior work on the Cinergy building has been proceeding, and a big chunk of the garage structure has gone up. https://www.fa...

Re: New Broadway Bridge

I don't know if I am looking at it correctly, but it looks like northbound 35 at the NW corner of the bluffs has the right land as the through lane and the 6th St/Broadway exit on the left? Looks that way to me. I think those woods are covering up a decent strip of land that might actually be prett...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Nearby the Gateway & Mission Bowl, City of Mission has ~$5MM of bond money ready to go to fix the final stretch of Rock Creek where significant chunks of property have been eroding into the creek. Unfortunately, Wendy's is playing hard to get on the minor easements required to do the repairs [1]...

We've got Sling TV on Fiber 500 and I must say that it's absolutely flawless in terms of being stutter-free and high quality video without excessive compression artifacts or anything.

Speaking of neighborhoods with weird paths in/out, this hidden thing off of Staley Rd:

It's barely evident anyone lives there from (what I perceive to be) the main entrance (Cypress):

Re: Three Light

IMO BPV has virtually nothing of interest outside of sports events, and in that case it can get crowded and messy in a hurry. Nothing strongly against it outside of personal preference, but it's a void on the map from my perspective. On game day, I'd prefer to either be in the stadium or as far away...

Re: Lamp Post District - Mission, KS

Countryside joined the city of Mission via consolidation (as opposed to annex) in 2003. It still has quite a strong neighborhood identity, though. Yes, it is in Shawnee Mission school district. And yes, it has some quite nice houses.

FYI, nobody here is calling it the "Lamp Post" anything, or "Lo Jo" for that matter. All the councilmembers are just calling it "the Locale". The rest of the town, "the construction on Johnson Drive" :D Anyway, chatter at the Mission Ward IV meeting tonight ab...

Re: Lamp Post District - Mission, KS

I've never understood why Mission didn't do more to develop their downtown with more residential, there's a lot of missed/wasted opportunity there now. Yeah, as a resident, I'd love nothing more than to see some density development here. The current mayor and a good chunk of the council are certain...
