Re: North Plaza Hotel- 46th and Broadway

With Holiday Inn gone, this is only a net add of 50 rooms. There are a lot of hotels that may never re-open. I kind of wonder if the crown center Sheraton will re-open. That building needs a major overall and rebranding anyway. Sort of a waste of a sizable tall building that used to be higher end. ...

Re: Independence Center

I don't think I've ever seen a curfew start at 3pm (and they still had an issue yesterday). Sounds pretty serious. Almost all of the malls in St. Louis have had curfews like this since Ferguson. The Galleria specifically has a 3pm cutoff, but I believe Mid Rivers and West County are a little later....

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

How does the ownership break down for the Plaza now? 50% Simon and 50% Macerich? Simon owns 80% of Taubman rather than the company disappearing, so it *technically* didn't change ownership. One partner has a new parent company Simon is doing all leasing and management, The Taubman family retains an...

Re: Independence Center

Macy’s is reportedly closing. If they don't get their gang problem under control the entire mall will be closing. I highly expect the metros only traditional mall to be Oak Park in the very near future. I've been calling out the warning signs at IC since before Simon defaulted on the mall, but peop...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I agree empires228 i think the people in south johnson county don't feel compelled to drive to the plaza anymore and they can get a majority of the items online. Either way, it's just depressing to see what's happened to the plaza. I really hope that they turn it around. If you go out and ask the s...

Re: Music Hall's Fake Walls: A Mystery?

It's for acoustical reasons. The building isn't bad acoustically now, certainly not as bad as the symphony's old home. The old theater organ works really well in there, even if the rest of the building is in desperate need of restoration.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

With Nordstroms coming, wonder if Macy's could be poached from Oak Park Macy’s owns their buildings at Independence Center, Oak Park, Metro North, and Town Center Plaza. I believe the only one they’re leasing post closure of Metcalf South is Lee’s Summit. A recent map floating around based off of M...

KC metro had 30K telcom jobs when Sprint was at it's peak back around 2000. SW Bell/ATT also used to have several thousand in metro. Now under 4K telcom jobs for metro. Hopefully Tmobile can spin the trend upward again. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3eVywvCs1byyGjF3MBnKuWFaupI529AqZ-G_Q...

Tiffany's is now closing on the plaza. Not really sure what Taubmann is going to do with all these empty storefronts. Pretty sad to see what's happening down there. https://www.kansascity.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/cityscape/article248165020.html#storylink=mainstage_card2 Taubman is no lon...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between

I love Halls. Shop there all the time, especially their sales. I wouldn't say it's going kaput. The home and beauty supply sections are going kaput. The clothing selection is actually going to be expanded. If you don't currently shop there and like nice shit, make sure you do! It is surprising that...

Wow that's a prominent storefront. It's one of the more attractive corners under an iconic, tiled dome. Hope they get someone good in that spot. It will be interesting to see what fills it... I guess they stopped using it as the "Flagship" location when the new one in Leawood opened. Helz...

Versus the Johnson County developments which are an hour from downtown and cater mostly to people who work in Johnson County thus promoting even less jobs and busin...
