Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

She should take up her issues with one person, her landlord. It's his prerogative on what to do with his property. He didn't invest because he was hoping to be the landlord of small time bars, he invested to make money. The idea that tenants don't matter, it's only the landlords that matter, it's o...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

While I think in the direct aftermath of an event like this, people will be hesitant to be in the same area. But, with a little time and perspective, I think people will see that makes very little sense. This was an event that attracted hundreds of thousands of people from all over the region and me...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Overall, this seems pretty detached from reality for the vote and will be rolled back considerably once they've gotten all the approvals. The office, residential and hotel will probably just be a parking garage. If that stuff isn't built along with the stadium then it's not happening. I feel like th...

Re: Overhaul of Kansas City incentive policies

As much of the process needs to be taken away from the politicians and handled by staff as possible. An achievable set of groundrules that if you meet them, you get the incentives, at least for projects under a certain number of units. Let city council set their goals in one guiding ordinance, not o...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Interesting, it sounds like being in or near the entertainment center of the universe doesn't automatically produce the assumed success that some executives in a board room planned and the professionals, that do this for a living, aren't infallible. Maybe that should show you that using one variable...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Think about it. You tear down your building to add 30 parking spaces. You have the cost to tear down the building, build the lot, maintain it, hire people to run it on game days etc. Sure that works for a while, but only if the building you tore down was not being used. And the second a hotel or re...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The problem is that the surrounding neighborhood isn't centrally planned. Even if the stadium is perfectly executed with a garage or garages built as well as you can build a garage, there are still going to be nearby property owners that are going to view parking as a better revenue stream than what...

What's there now is too valuable to be parking or parking is more valuable than what's there?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Plenty of surface parking lots already exist and I have no doubt the Royals will build some parking garages nearby, If that parking doesn't fulfill the gameday demand (which it won't) then that argument is irrelevant. And where are the parking garages going to go BTW? Only on surface lots or are we...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The anti-Crossroads people are acting no different than suburban NIMBY's. Not my area! Go elsewhere! Even though it's ultimately the *best* option for the city downtown. I don't live in the Crossroads and I deeply disagree with it being the best for downtown. In fact, I think the EC people h...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Would Cigar Box really be Cigar Box if it was in a brand new mega-project with a Jose Pepper's next door instead of a strip club?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I don't like the storefronts on Grand being demolished but I still think it's the best site. Actual proposal (seriously...), Let's just relocate those storefronts (at least save the architectural facades) and move them to ANY of these surface parking lots within a 2-3 block radius from the stadium....

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Well of course my comment about strippers coming and going wasn’t serious. My point remains the same though, the stretch of grand isn’t what I would call vibrant or high activity. From my perspective both as someone who’s profession is involved and as a long term downtown resident, the pros of thes...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Let’s be honest, you won’t take anyone serious who is as I wrong for the crossroads site. I take many arguments for the East Crossroads site seriously. But, If the that site is so obviously superior, why the need to post utter nonsense and misinformation? What nonsense and misinformation are you re...

I would take you guys seriously if you were actually talking about the area the stadium is going to go. Instead you're posting the worst screenshot you can find from blocks away. Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The most activity happening along Grand are strippers coming and going, police showing up to tavern disturbances and people picking up their dry cleaning. Jesus, dude. There are four restaurants, a salon, a bar that's an institution, etc just on one block of what you want to tear down. If you can't...
