Re: KC in TV and Movies
trying to figure out which scenes were actually filmed in KC--or did they just take some "B roll" footage for background CGI? in the "behind the scenes" interviews after the episode, the producers said they actually filmed the "kansas city" scenes in calgary. i guess th...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
STL's downtown is entirely dead in all areas outside of game day. KC is not like that. I do worry East Village will be insulated from the rest of downtown but we have something STL doesn't, a destination. EV Stadium you have the destination of RM, P&L, Crossroads, Crown Center. In STL there is ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
did the Padres organization itself build the office and residential? or was that development created by third-parties, outside of Padres' ownership, as a result of the baseball investment?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
this could be a dumb question which has been discussed previously--but i was in downtown STL recently for work and walking around the govt/courthouse district, which is close to busch stadium. does STL illustrate how a downtown stadium could feel in KC? the two downtown stadium locations seem somewh...

Re: Brookside
new restaurant going into the Crestwood shops - Bacaro Primo - paper on the windows says coming Spring 2023. Assuming italian based on the name and the Peroni beer logos in the window. Notably, I am told Bacaro Primo is from the same ownership as Earl's Premier, so this bodes well. I think the succe...

Re: Urban Living Pet Peeves
sounds like circling the sideshow with stop-sticks, then arresting the participants when they flee, is a winning solution. i also find it hard to believe a sideshow or drag race is a mere "traffic violation" -- seems like maybe it should be categorized as a more serious or violent (or atte...

Re: New Chiefs Stadium
if arrowhead were to move, why not along the riverfront like the new KC Current stadium. it's close to downtown (although not walkable) for access but isolated enough to not be a drain on downtown vitality.

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
work travel this week took me through CLT and DFW--hadn't been to those airports in a while. those airports are very uninspiring but functional, much like i suspect KC will be (at a reduced scale). while everyone would love an iconic, beautiful airport, baseline functionality and some decent food/re...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?
I'm paging chrizow here specifically because they've claimed to be fairly left wing, but I'm also interested in hearing opinions from any other progressives who might be hanging around this board, what do you all make of this issue? Discourse on this subject is way more one-sided on here than I'd e...

Re: Dispatches from the Northland
I looked at the northland when we returned to KC last year. Where did you end up?? What I did not like about the northland, was the totally disjointed and patchy feel to the area. It was like a lot of small communities connected by a fairly extensive highway system.. . . .A lot of the disjointed fe...

Re: Dispatches from the Northland
i appreciate this post very much. i think the briarcliff area, and downtown NKC, are unique and are a great suburban option esp. for folks who work downtown or in NKC. other than the small village around Armour in NKC which is relatively urban in scale, i think up north one simply must accept it is ...

Re: Northland finally starting to take growth from JoCo
JoCo is a county of nearly 600,000 people which directly abuts KCMO from 47th all the way south to form a contiguous (sub)urbanized area. JoCo contains multitudes--some aspects more favorable than others--but to say it's somehow more "disconnected" from urban KCMO than the Northland seems ...

Re: Northland finally starting to take growth from JoCo
The Northland is an awesome suburb, given its much more tied into downtown than JoCo. people always say this and i don't understand it at all. "the northland" is enormous and totally divorced from the KCMO city grid south of the river--whereas JoCo ties directly into it. the NE JoCo burbs...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
unfortunately, the Plaza is essentially a shopping mall in charming 1920s architecture. its core function is not serving a neighborhood, it's maximizing rents from (mostly) the chains that can afford them. it will be interesting to see what happens to the Plaza in the next 10-20 years. brick and mor...

i mean...this has been tried. there was a mcdonald's on the plaza for many years, where noodles & co (?) is (was?) now, next to the defunct movie theatre.AlkaliAxel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 2:42 pm An urban format McDonalds would absolutely get a ton of traffic if they tried it. This isn’t JoCo.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
probably a moot point since Winstead's is almost certainly on its last legs--but the architecture of the location seems fine to me, as a relic. it was built in, what, the 1940s, when the city was 5x as dense as it is now? i guess one could argue it was an early symptom of the car-centric culture tha...
