Re: GSA considers big office complex downtown

I hope the GSA move and the Highway 71 corridor analysis can get some sort of transit synergy going. I would think that a Prospect Max or a express service running on 71 could make use of these people as a ready base. They wouldn't have to alter their auto commute patterns hardly at all to utilize a...

A downtown Target would be great, especially considering they're willing to locate in an existing building. Just think of the possibilities among the buildings currently awaiting rehab.

Re: A good suit

I went with Slabotsky's for our wedding suits. We had 4 total: myself, two friends in the party and my father in law. We had a little bit of trouble getting things right for my FiL, but the other three went just fine. Reasonably priced, too and he was very accommodating. I'll go back next time I nee...

Re: Pickwick Plaza (10th and McGee) Put Up For Sale; Market

Living next to the loop does certainly have a very limited appeal. How bad is it? Seems like being up a few floors would help... Actually, I think being closer to the ground is better for a little bit; the trench effect of the north loop directs the sound on a more upwardly trajectory. After that, ...

Re: KC Commuter Rail

There's also a severed segment in River Market just south of the 3rd & Grand Max stop between Grand and Oak. You could see a rail in 3rd Street before they patched a pothole earlier this year. They run up the alley and cross Fourth and Fifth. Totally useless for anything, but still a neat artifa...

Re: Johnson County Gateway

I'd like to see a funding formula based on something like this for projects within a metropolitan area: 1.) Identify the base load of truly inter-state traffic. Traffic going from Des Moines to Oklahoma City, or Denver to St. Louis. These people are the reason the interstate highway system was built...

Are there any vegetarian options on the menu? The lady is a veggie (I'm not) and I'd love to try Anton's out--it sounds amazing. It's just a bit tougher to get there by myself.

Re: Linwood and Main

Most of the facade is down now. It looks like they're salvaging the bricks to sell, so that is slowing down the demolition process.

The site is still vacant, with the same sign. Does anybody have any new information or a timeline?

Re: Pickwick Plaza (10th and McGee) Put Up For Sale; Market

I can't wait for the East Village area to be built out, especially the commercial aspect. River Market is not really that far from my building, but I-70 represents a large psychological barrier to thinking of it as adjacent. To the east there is the same issue with the east loop. Going south you get...

We had maybe 6 people in front of us around 7:15 this morning at the Comfort Inn at Admiral and Charlotte. Better turn out than primaries, but no delay to speak of. We were out in 15 minutes.

Re: Linwood and Main

I go by there daily on the bus, and one morning this week I got a pretty good look at the northmost archway. It appeared to be sagging some in the middle. I don't know if that is indicative of the entire state of the building, but that could be a lot of work to stabilize and shore up that facade. Ho...

The sidewalk barricades came down sometime recently, I first noticed they were gone a couple days ago. Inside still looks the same, going by in a bus on 11th.

Re: Demolition at 43rd and Main?

The sidewalk is still blocked off. There had been an excavator parked out back a couple weeks ago but I think it got moved somewhere else for now. Windows on the south side have been removed and it looks like they're stripping the interior. I'm hoping that the new bank is urban and fits up to the si...

Didn't know where else to put this. Does anybody know what's going on in the former Snack Shop on the corner of 11th and Grand? It's all cleaned up, painted, looks like a small bar, pool tables, etc. According to the gentleman at Slabotsky & Sons--which also up until recently leased space in th...

Re: Missouri Amtrak Service

The situation with the Southwest Chief is complicated, and players beyond Kansas will have to be involved. BNSF still runs freight on the La Junta Subdivision to Garden City, and maybe a little farther. Several shortlines tie into it as well. The biggest issue on the La Junta will be the marginal co...
