Re: 50s/Main development

I'm very pleased with the brick. We all tend to be ultimately unsatisfied and wish for more with architecture and design (and many times for good reason) but I think we should be happy with this brick work. It has a definite nod to past KC appartment architecture with the blocky balcony outcrops. I ...

They've been slowly taking over Hallmark HQ space in the 2400 buildings along Gilham. I think they are the primary if not only tennant in 2400 building, and have been taking over 2420 floors as well.

Isn't there a club still down on SW Blvd called BLVD Nights or something?

Not possible!! The description on Sheraton's website says you can relax in leather chairs surrounded by a rustic brick floor and modern blonde wood accents with all the ambiance of the 49 Crown Center fountain jets!

One of you is not telling the truth here! ;-)

I noticed a screen mirroring ability show up on the Apps page of Google Fiber, I guess it's beta for now and only for the Nexus 7 they give you with the complete package. Anxious to try that out tonight.

Agree on lack of flavor on Entwined. I was pleasantly surprised by the Hibiscus Gose. I thought it was very solid. It was not overly floral at all, and for someone that doesn't love sours, I liked that one a lot.

Re: New Convention Hotel

That would be awesome. I'm not sure how many rooms there are in the old Muehlebach portion, but when we had our wedding in the old lobby back in '09 I asked about it. The answer was simply they weren't needed and the amount of lead/asbestos that needed to be abated outweighed the need for the rooms ...

I walked by and saw that yesterday. Too bad, they had an interesting concept, food was really pretty good if you ordered right. If you went in just for pepperoni and mozzarella, you were going to be disappointed. But if you got a mix of fontina, mozz, spinach, chicken, artichoke hearts, diced ham, i...

I thought that too, but that doesn't make sense for why I say "in Westport" (unless I'm the only one?)

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Wasn't quite sure where to put this topic but I was curious. I was born and raised here and never quite thought much about it, but my wife is from New Orleans and asked me why do we say "on the Plaza". For instance, in conversation we'll say, "Lets go walk on the Plaza" or "...

No kidding. I have a number of post cards of the Second Church of Christ Scientist but never researched it to see where in KC it was. It really pisses me off that these are all gone.

Those are fantastic! Are they brand new ground up construction or partial rebuild? The brick pillars in the front of the reddish one look old, or maybe they used older brick? Looks like they also kept the remnants of an old rock wall along the sidewalk. I love when new construction keeps around part...

After checking out the website I decided to go back and click "No" if I was legal drinking age just to see where it took me. It directed me to Capri Sun. Ha! I hope the recipe section gets beefier with a heavy dose of old, forgotten cocktails. I love "old" Old Fashioneds (would t...

Remedy is closing as of 9/28. Two owners of Summit Grill out on 291 near Woods Chapel are going to open their second location here. I won't miss Remedy at all. Big aspirations and talk, didn't really execute it well in my opinion. My food was often overcooked, and just wasn't that great. I went twic...

I hadn't heard of the Park Mobile app. I guess that's nice. Seems to me it's probably better to have a piece of paper with an expiration time on it visible on your dash than to trust a potentially flaky app running on a potentially flaky device running on a potentially flaky mobile network connecte...

I still haven't figured out what they're doing with the old Halls Womens section. Where the shoes, cosmetic used to be, that's all still basically untouched and closed off. The doors were open today so I cut through to go have lunch at the H Bar. Studio Dan Meiners was in there setting up, and there...

Hmm, white ceiling tiles a big fail but look forward to checking it out. I don't think it was as bad as you might think. There were a lot of interesting things going on with curves and varying levels of the ceiling, it didn't detract from it I didn't think. A few spots had small crystal chandeliers...

Halls has quietly opened. There are still workers on ladders, carts being wheeled around, and product being arranged. The cafe/bar isn't up and running yet but it's close. Some areas are completely empty so I'm not sure what they are planning in them. I'm honored to have this near downtown. It's bri...
