KC visit in October '05

If pictures are missing, see them at http://www.flickr.com/photos/115393943@N05/collections/72157640386317146/ . Here are a few photos I snapped while visiting family in KC last October. From the front seat of a speeding vehicle. http://my.opera.com/Roanoker/homes/albums/58623/001KCApproach2.jpg Fi...

Re: Religious Groups of the USA - (map)

StL city and sorrounding counties look to be predominately Catholic indeed: http://www.valpo.edu/geomet/pics/geo200/religion/church_bodies.gif I was surprised by how heavily California was represented by Catholicism. Then it dawned on me that California is heavily Hispanic. It would be interesting ...

PowerBooks rule! I just got a MacBook Pro two weeks ago.    8) I will miss that kidney...  :( Do you use Safari to get to this web site? It wouldn't work on the forum for me. I downloaded the free browser, Opera, and that *does* work. The Opera Community allows you to use up to 300MB for free, so i...

Insert this... http://my.opera.com/Roanoker/homes/albums/58623/005GlassStreet.JPG in between the img tags. Re: A Great Day to go "Walkies" (04/01/2006)

http://www.syphon.com/personal/scott/pix/060401/DCFC0039.jpg This one reminds me of art classes, where we had to draw straight lines, like spokes in a wheel, all converging into a vanishing point. Then we'd draw in the buildings and whatever else. You can see where the vanishing point should be in ...

It's okay, guys. (didn't mean to stir up nuttin.) All the different styles are welcome. I've lived so long, what I learned in school back in the stone age isn't relevant anymore. So I'm having to learn all over again. New words are welcome, too. In my profession (IT), I've observed that speed can be...

Re: Cameras

To photo buffs on this website I am looking to replace my digital camera, a Kodak Easy Share DX634 (which I received with purchase of my computer) with a better top line Cannon etc....  It takes decent photos but inferior to what I can get on my film camera.  I would like something with a variable ...

I can't believe people actually want an email about PM anyways but that's beside the issue. I suppose other, getting-to-know-the-site surface lots like me will need the email notifications for a while, sort of like a security blanket. (lips pressed together and twisted to the side--couldn't find re...

Spellchecker and Google

The forum's spellchecker doesn't recognize "Google" as a valid word. Oh, well. Who has time to spellcheck, anyway?  :)

The suggested replacement words are fun to view.

Google Maps/Keyhole does update their maps fairly frequently, it appears.
Thanks, Kard. I checked the Google option. I see you need to download the application, free or otherwise. The satellite images are supposed to be no older than 3 years. Sounds good.

Interesting site. Entered a few addresses and noticed how old the arial shots were. How often are they updated and by what criteria?

Re: FAA moving 34 KC jobs to OKC and Fort Worth, may close KC branch

This seems like a logical move to me. KC is pretty close to OKC after all. Its bad for KC though. Aside from OKC, all of the FAA regional offices are in much larger population centers. LA, NYC, Boston, Atlanta, Texas, Chicago, Seattle, New Jersey. Better get used to stuff like this. Companies and a...

Tornados don't hit urban areas. (Humor me here. I'm on a roll.) I don't remember the year or even the decade, but I remember some sort of weather anomaly that struck just the Plaza. It was a severe downdraft, or downspout, or something like that. I think it did substantial damage to the tennis cour...

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread

Tornados don't hit urban areas. They also don't hit communities surrounded by mountains. I currently live in Roanoke, Virginia, nestled in a valley, completely enveloped within the Blue Ridge Mountains. I've been told the mountains help stave off tornadoes, but they are still possible. Do you suppo...

When I was in a Kansas City grade school (yeah, I can remember that far back), a tornado struck Ruskin Heights. The Kansas City Star published a photo of the severely damaged high school, proudly displaying the letters, "RU  IN"

KCK and other twenty-somethings---the key is to start saving early. I hope everybody picks up on this wise statement and takes it to heart. Things change over the years. Make sure you have enough stored up so you don't have to rely on anyone else. Otherwise--no matter how great you are in your curr...

If everything is as it was when I was there several years ago, Pier 39 is a good place to see the big seals who laid claim to the boat slips. Also there are wonderful chocolate chip cookies at Blue Chip Cookies, or something like that. As for Muir Woods, the place is mystical, almost like the settin...
