Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I get the frustration but they do plan to build the village portion. That’s within their control, the cap is not however they know wealthy people who would likely donate and help raise funding. They needed to show the entire project because they’re asking for millions but are tossing in a billion o...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I remain disheartened that so many members of this forum support the wanton destruction of organic urban development for a baseball stadium when there are other, reasonable options. While money may satisfy some folks, for others it may provide little or no consolation. So-called successful real est...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Cannot be asking the taxpayers to chip in first and take it on faith that private money and MoDot will come out of the woodwork to make deliver on promises with no guarantees. Closing Oak is a massive negative for this plan in my book. If the attendant development and cap is not built in conjunction...

Re: Is the Streetcar Extension bringing new development as promised?
I went into that Office Depot right before I moved because it was close and I needed a roll of tape and some sharpies. There was an active confrontation between some homeless dude and an employee, and my tape plus sharpies cost like a million bucks. Also just a mess on the inside. The area definitel...

Re: GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew on an intellectual level that Taylor Swift was the most famous/popular pop star and there was a community of pretty intense fans but no one in my circle has ever been a Swifty except for maybe my wife's step sisters. I honestly I did not get the extent of her fame before this past year. I sta...

Re: Midtown Area Apartment Boom
I'm at a multi-year nadir of optimism on the KC urban renewal front. Some of it is just the hard environment nationally on multi family construction and some of it is very specific to KC like this and the active discussion about bulldozing whole blocks of the Crossroads.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
And that's not a large store by REI's standards. It's the smallest REI store I've been in and I've been in many - it's even smaller than the one in Anchorage AK. I guess there isn't that big of a market here in KC for that kind of stuff. It would fit nicely in a lot of vacant Plaza locations but I ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
REI stores are usually quite large, even ones located in urban areas. Not sure the old North Face space or even the old Moosejaw could host an REI. But it would be awesome to Have REI on the Plaza. The only location in the metro being on 135th is a bummer for sure. And with Moosejaw now closed REI i...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
While there might be some chance a ballpark could be done "properly" in Crossroads I just shudder at the long list of ways it could be and probably would be done improperly and the numerous negative externalizes that could befall the locally oriented Crossroads business environment. EV wou...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
The two sites are like five blocks apart. There are parking lots at TSC that are farther from the stadium than the EV site is from the Live block. The idea that putting the stadium (a facility that, itself, sits on a superblock and represents zero population) in EV vs. Crossroads appreciably reduce...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I think most of us that have deep concerns about the Crossroads location could be brought on board with the right plan, presented with transparency and confidence. Absolutely we need to see that plan before the tax extension vote. I'm no longer a voter in KC but if I still was I would have a very ha...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I am strongly in the East Village camp as far as my preference. But if this is the way things are going the proposal must absolutely fit between Grand and Oak for me to make peace with it.

Re: POLL: Best Downtown Stadium Location
Any other day than one in which I held a ticket to a baseball game, a ballpark and the attendant types of businesses that would plant themselves around it would make me want to visit the Crossroads less, not more. The Crossroads has it's own thing going. It doesn't need a bunch of big sports bars an...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I likewise noticed many many many instances over the last few years where few or even no courts were being used even in some pretty prime weather. I agree it's an ideal spot for some type of community center that will serve a much broader range of people than the tennis playing public and tennis can...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
If the stadium could indeed be built over the interstate as in Dcole's mock up then I'm a lot more open to the idea as it would significantly reduce impact to existing neighborhood and buildings. But likewise I'm super skeptical of the feasibility. Really need to see the actual plan in hand before I...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
The potential of a Crossroads location was debated thoroughly on this thread. Seems like everyone who chimed in back then are mostly still in their same camps. I can't personally fathom evicting a ton of good businesses, many of which I was happily patron to and creating an even bigger superblock th...

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit
The one caveat I gave on my preference for 31st given the built environment was that Linwood would be be a better platform for a higher speed, higher capacity line. I hammered that point in all the feedback I provided throughout the process and I know others on this board id as well. Thrilled to hea...

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit
I agree that 31st would have made more sense on a few different levels. Consolidating a few stops should probably be in the cards. Want to know what the funding will look like. When is there a vote? Got to start educating the public on this in a bigger way. Sadly moved to Chicago so won't be able to...

Re: Four Light
FWIW, amenities are great but they also increase the monthly maintenance on a condo. I have owned two condos downtown and neither had amenities (one had a shared roof deck). I liked this because, as I said, it kept the dues down. But I also understand some folks want lots of staff and amenities. Ha...
