Re: Detroit files for bankruptcy
Don't forget about $4 billion for highway expansion. (Though to be completely fair, the regional planning organization [think MARC] and the State DOT are culpable here, but it's still symptoms of the same problem.) http://dc.streetsblog.org/2013/06/19/detroits-regional-planners-need-to-kick-the-high...

Re: Detroit files for bankruptcy
Yup, KC has benefited from the Ponzi Scheme in the Northland for the last few decades. Now it's up to the city to ensure that all new growth up there is sustainable--both economically and environmentally--and to densify what is already built so as to not further handicap the resurgent urban core in ...

http://dc.streetsblog.org/2013/07/22/how-sprawl-got-detroit-into-this-mess/ How Sprawl Got Detroit Into This Mess A study released by the Brookings Institution this year found that Detroit has the worst job sprawl in the country. Now, many regions are sprawling, but Detroit is unusual, because it sp...

I think he means 22nd & Oak, after Gillham transitions along the east side of Crown Center. I've noticed the same fill activity.

If/when the building is converted to residential, imagine the premium they could get for a penthouse incorporating the bump-out into the unit.

Re: Commerce Tower is for sale
I think it's an example of good, solid Modernist architecture. It doesn't hurt that it's next to a parking garage and the hideous 811 Main building. Plus, it's tall. Tall is good.

I thought I had seen somewhere that the doggie daycare was going into the building undergoing rehab at 5th & Grand. Does anybody know what's going in there now?

They've also expanded to Cape Girardeau since then. That's as far from STL as KC is from Columbia, give or take a couple miles.

I'd love a White Castle in Westport or Midtown.

Went by again today. It's called "SISU," which is presumably an acronym for something I couldn't discern.

Re: Union Hill Development
We drove by yesterday and it looks like most of the excavation (including quite a few cubic yards of rock) is complete for the building on the west side of Gillham. The demo on the adjacent building isn't quite complete. The excavated rock was staged in large chunks on the lot directly south of ther...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity
I walked by the Western Union building today and there's graphics going up on the first floor windows for a survival store/training center. Seems like an odd fit for a largely progressive downtown.

Something appropriate about an over-the-hill band opening a restaurant in a heavily subsidized exurban greenfield development.

Re: Main Street MAX
Nice picture. ;-) Keep it on Grand at Crown Center, jog to Oak at 16th (to avoid reroutes from Sprint Center events), then jog back to Grand at a newly 2-way-ed 8th or 9th Street. Keeping the Oak jog avoids duplicating and competing with the Streetcar as well as providing solid north-south service t...

There's always the chance that that they mowed it so surveyors could set stakes. Probably a citation, though.

I wonder if they were also worried about how being associated with Troost would affect their precious JoCo demographic?

Re: Work emails on personal phones?
Another thing I've taken advantage of is the feature on an iPhone that lets you turn off the email function of individual accounts. That way I can still receive personal emails but work emails do not come to my phone for the time being.
