Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Because they are all depressed and crying. Question is: Chiefs game over at 3:00 or at 6:00 in the afternoon. Are the bars still packed at 10:00? I used to work in the Service industry and your reasoning is completely unfounded. If only 100 people went into an establishment in the P&L before...

The Beaumont is ungoing renovation and is supposed to be ready for the upcoming Franz Ferdinand concert.

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
OKC and Tulsa for two. P&L is actually growing the economic activity? Let's see, we have lost two big conventions but we have secured others but how much cost have they offset? Better environment? How many jobs dt before and how many after? More sporting events? But then most of those can ...

I'm tired of Flo, but I'd rather watch a drag show (even her) than sit through another Karaoke night.

Re: What should be the next step for rail transit in Kansas City?
Never thought I'd say it, but thank God for Clay; he is a fighter. I do have a question, though... He lives in in Bedford, Virginia, correct? Does anyone know why he is so invested in seeing KC get light rail? I agree with Highlander that Clay seems more interested in turning Penn Valley into a tra...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants
Anyone see Joyce Smith's column today? Mentioned that a casual-style Mexican place was going in the old Pangea location.
I also heard a rumor that a gay club was going to open in the old Copa Room on B'way.

Re: Indian Restaurants
I also like the lunch buffet at Korma Sutra. But the only place I've eaten in the area that compares to curries from the UK is in a strip mall at College and Antioch (Ruchi Indian maybe?), but it was over a year ago. They had an amazing buffet and menu items from different types of curry, not just...

Re: Could a large, outdoor flea market resuscitate downtown?
When I was in DC in September some friends of mine took me to an open air flea market in Cap Hill - antiques, art, fresh fruit, etc. The neighborhoods surrounding were filled with pedestrians and the area was vibrant. I could see something in the City Market doing well, maybe set up on Delaware and...

Re: Foreclosures - where may I find a high density of foreclosed homes in one place?
I'm glad someone brought this subject up. I'm hoping to buy my first home this year and am interested in checking out foreclosed/bank-owned homes when house hunting. What I've found so far is that I can only see properties online at real estate company listings listed as bank owned, but the majori...

I thought the post was quite fair, but at the same time, I hope he understands that he probably couldn’t have picked a worse time to visit KC. I have always though of February as being that absolute worst month in KC. Nothing is going on. The city is really asleep this time of year between the ho...

Re: Times have changed, time for KCMO voters to accept that....
I live and work in KCMO and benefit from the free trash pickup (paid for by my Etax). I agree that you can't expect services to remain the same after 35+ years. I also think it's f-ing ridiculous to offer 'free' trash pickup. BUT if there are already people dumping trash around town when it's fre...

Re: New DOLLAR TREE in Westport
i know, but this looks particularly awful imo. it's like they just lifted the signage off a larger store in shawnee and nailed it to the old westport center. it looks like it is photoshopped or something. just awful. huge step back for the center too. that strip center actually has good tenant...

The funniest part of the Forbes online list has to be the accompanying photos - it's like they TRIED to find the most desolate-looking images around. The shot of Modesto doesn't even have a building in it.

Re: New Boulevard Facility?
I drove by Sunday evening and it was Sprint-yellow. It really stood out - as I was driving south on I-35, it drew my attention to the west side of the freeway instead of my usual glances toward the Crossroads and Crown Center. This sign looks awesome and I can't wait to see the different colors.

Re: KC grows in census challenge
Lawrence has been asked to join the KC MSA and they have always turned it down. So I guess we have to wait till the stats make it mandatory for them to do so, which may never happen. The biggest reason Lawrence is not part of the KC MSA is because they are their own MSA and they dont want to giv...

KC grows in census challenge
Good news - the US Census Bureau accepted KC's challenge and increased the official population from 450,375 to 475,830. That moves us up from 39th largest to 35th in the 2007 estimates! http://www.kansascity.com/news/breaking_news/story/1020877.html 34 Albuquerque city New Mexico 518,271 35 Fresno ...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
I'm completely bummed about this...next up to ensure this becomes a neighborhood-in-decline is a check cashing place and furniture rental store with bars in the windows. Plus, the signage dominates the entire shopping center. Makes a person wonder why this location was chosen over the old Osco on ...

Re: Developer Proposes Different Convention Hotel Site
I think Barney Allis is a waste of space...there is no street-level interaction and that appears to be because of topography for the most part. Overall, I don't mind the concept of a park or some sort of green space - but the current design is awful. However, to build a 1,000 room hotel over the p...
