Re: KCK new Grocery Store
This could be absolutely wonderful for KCK. 78th and State and Wyandotte Plaza in particular is the most built up suburban area east of 435. The place was remodeled several years ago and is pretty decent, but could use improvements, especially if they bring in new stuff. I'm from KCK and haven't bee...

Re: The KCMO School District
I would think affected districts would only be those touching KCMO, which would rule out Raymore-Peculiar. In addition to those you listed, Raytown borders the KCMO district. Here's a map I found for a quick glance: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qwoyPCgSz2M/TlZZl1RqrFI/AAAAAAAANNY/lOovkMnygDo/s1600/%252...

Re: The KCMO School District
Is there any serious concern that dissolving KCMO schools into surrounding districts would have a negative net effect? Doesn't doing so have the potential of taking surrounding districts - that already have issues - down a notch and creating an even bigger dooughnut hole in our metro? Have any of o...

Yup, the east leg of 435 through KCMO is pretty bad.AllThingsKC wrote:Recent visitors to KC made this map of our city:

Re: The KCMO School District
I think the main liberal reason for opposition to vouchers is the dislike of government money going to private Christian education. How fascist of those people. I think parents can choose where they want to send their kids without anybody else needing to have such control over that decision. Don't ...

This is what I thought, yet I didn't see it in the latest plans that include the Walmart signage.sbrundel wrote:From Mission's Web site: The project concept retains a hotel, an upscale fitness center, a theater, office and residential space, and The Kansas Aquarium.

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Wow. I would love to live there, above that retail and so close to Walmart. I'd go there and also to the aquarium everyday. I hope the proposed restaurant pad site ends up being something like a Captain D's, so I could eat some fried fish-like product after I go to the aquarium. It would be really ...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
I do believe the site plans as seen here have been updated: http://www.missionks.org/DocumentView.aspx?DID=2414 This is going to be an amazing project for Kansas City, very innovative for the area. I say props to Mission and Walmart. It will provide a good local example of how to redevelop other inn...

Re: The Citadel Plaza project at E. 63rd & Prospect
There used to be a Wal-Mart near there at Bannister Mall, but they shut the store down and moved to the former Blue Ridge Mall site. I doubt Wal-Mart would open another store on the Citadel Plaza site. However, it would be an ideal site for one of their competitors, Target--especially one that incl...

Main Street (MainCor) Streetscape
I couldn't find a thread on this subject, so here is the website with information including the master plan: http://www.maincor.org/?page=plans Anyway, what do you all think of the progress so far? While I generally prefer classical design over modern, I'm mostly happy with the results of what's bee...

Re: The Citadel Plaza project at E. 63rd & Prospect
Has anybody else thought a Walmart store would be perfect for this plot? It basically has 71 frontage and 63rd street is a busy commuter corridor. It's not that terrible of an area. Anybody know if Walmart has built in a similar area in other cities? On a side note, I've recently taken a closer look...

I thought only bums knew you could drink on the streets here. I have heard KCMO is one of the most liberal cities in regards to letting public consumption of alcohol take place, which is on of our biggest problems and hurts the image of the urban core. No doubt that public intoxication and vagrancy...

If I didn't live in the midwest (and wasn't interested in cities or the geography of the country) I would have an unfavorable stereotype of most cities in the interior. However, I think the responses speak just as much to the individuals who typed them. I thought only bums knew you could drink on t...

Re: NEW Independence Center tenants
Is there an example anywhere that even remotely compares to Bannister Mall / Benjamin Plaza where a regional retail area of close to 3 million sq feet dating only back to the late 80's has been completely vacated and a relatively new super regional mall razed only to sit empty. That is a HUGE area....

Highrise building at northeast corner of 39th and Main....
Is something going on there? It seems like I saw a setup out front that looks like its being prepared for construction? I also noticed sometime in the past year the windows were finally mostly boarded up.

Re: Modern Archeology
I love this stuff and I love exploring KCK, so please keep it coming. Are there any remnants of this railroad right of way left? I realized that the area between Quindaro/Brown and Parallel is one that I've missed most of during my explorations, so I'm especially curious about finding interesting s...

Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?
I think the most simple and straightforward answer to the original question and title of this thread is: lack of demand. I mean, there hasn't even been enough demand to fully build out or occupy the polished and manufactured Power and Light District or to fully yuppify/polish existing relatively suc...
