Re: Where is the Best Pedestrian Street in KC?
The streets through Hanover Heights are also great. Not sure if many people know of this great neighborhood in KCK. This is H.H.: http://goo.gl/maps/T2wCv Basically the 4100 blocks of Eaton, Cambridge & State Line with 41st & 42nd Ave. I drove through this neighborhood recently to finally c...

Re: Shawnee Mission Ain’t Lily-White No More
....It is interesting that East tends to maintain its identity as the rich school while the rest seem to be changing.... This may be interesting, but it makes perfect sense. If you look at the fall of the KCMO school district, you'll see that SWHS and the Brookside area was the last to go. SME and ...

This seems like the appropriate time to plug "The Great Inversion" by Alan Ehrenhalt. Interesting book on "demographic inversion" and what it means for the future of American cities. http://www.amazon.com/Great-Inversion-Future-American-City/dp/0307272745/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&...

Very nice. Now if something similar could just get proposed for the northwest corner and possibly even the northeast.

Re: IKEA may be coming to Merriam Village
I don't see the suburbs as Ikea target market demographic....and amazingly if they did, there are about 60% more suburbs out there than just JoCo...shocking I knwo. IKEA's target demographic may be particularly urbane, but I typically hear their store designs are not. So if locating in the suburbs ...

There's also the mixed use project at NE corner of 39th/State Line where Hanna used to be. Will be apts on top of street front retail. Would like to see the large surface lot behind Jazz developed with large public garage, streetfront retail, apts above. There is also the other Plaza hotel announce...

Re: Wonderful Waldo
First of all, I'd like to say I think Hen House is a MAJOR development and improvement for the Waldo neighborhood. A nice grocery store in "downtown" Waldo is a major component of a complete neighborhood that is missing. I feel the same about the South Plaza area, but that's a different su...

Re: Indian Springs Mall
That article is confused. The Indian Springs post office was at a shoddy strip mall "near 49th Street", not at Indian Springs mall, which is east of 47th St, the major north-south street intersecting State Ave in the area. Not that it's that important, but it leaves the question which site...

Hm, I'm surprised it didn't go to Lenexa or Desoto, neither of which have a Walmart. K7 and Johnson Dr is awfully close to the existing stores at 435 and SM PKWY and in Bonner Springs.
I wonder just how many stores Walmart envisions and how many they think they can sustain.

I hate that commercial. But I always thought of amusement parks like WOF as sort of a lower-middle class thing. Not sure why. But God forbid the common people actually be represented on TV!

Re: Horrace Mann Elementary to be converted to Loft Aparment
Foutch development company is proposing to convert the historic Hoarrace Mann Elementary school near 9th and State Ave in downtown to market-rate loft apartment. It is a beautiful old building built in 1908. The developer bought it from the Brotherhood of Boilmakers, who moved to Olathe and just re...

Weird. I noticed today some of the trees are like that behind the Home Builders Association at 103rd and Holmes. I looked at one close up and a large branch and section of the tree was split (still partially attached). I guess it must have been the wind. I don't recall noticing the trees that way un...

A Walmart Neighborhood Market is expected to be a key tenant at the refinished Antioch Crossing. A Walmart N.M. would be a perfect fit for the area! Although, the regular Walmart isn't that far up the road. http://antiochcrossing.com/ http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2012/04/12/kansas-cit...

Mama's closes for good. The rent is too damn high. Mama's 39th Street Diner closes on Sunday Good! I don't understand why people like this place, other than some sort of emotonial attachment from its prior existence. The place is dingy and depressing, the food is bland, and the portion sizes are ri...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I think a streetcar line to UMKC has the potential to be truly transformative, but I think a streetcar through BKS/Waldo, less so. And any southtown run should probably go down Troost south of the universities and over on Meyer to the Zoo. Max runs local south of the Plaza, anyway. They should leav...
