Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
The Plaza has been in steady decline for the better part of the past ten years, even though the conversation has been dismissed on here repeatedly. There is no luxury retail left, which was always what made The Country Club Plaza a signature destination. Stores like Burberry and Halls have all moved...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
I know. Hilarious. Striving for anything world class with our civic buildings in Kansas City is a foreign concept to many on here.
The cheap built reality compared to the original design is a stark contrast.
But hey, that’s good enough.

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
I don't disagree it would be better below ground but nobody (airlines) are paying for that hence why every airport has it. Not every airport has a parking garage that towers over it. Just the ones that are built as cheaply as possible. My issue is that we had an opportunity for something world clas...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
I think it’s more so the fact that it’s a full two stories above the terminal. It makes the arrivals area feel like a canyon. I still argue that the expense of going subterranean for a couple stories would’ve helped to not make the garage feel as imposing The cost of going below grade is significan...

The massive parking garage is really something to behold. A real front door.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Let's face the music there is not going to be anything left of the Country Club Plaza at some point probably not to far off at this rate. It will just be another glass, stucco, and concrete business district devoid of any originality. It's basically there, but a lot of folks on here have been whist...

Re: GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way this was larger than the Royals parade. I'm guessing 200K tops. If you looked at Google Maps the traffic layer rarely turned orange/red all day long. It was a significantly smaller turnout. I would estimate if the Royals was around 800k, this was somewhere in the 500k range. It was absolute ...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
The new terminal entryway will be 40' but slopes down towards the back. The current KCI terminals are probably somewhere around 30-35 feet. The 35 gate new terminal that just opened in NOLA has ceilings up to 70 to 80 feet for comparison... ...even their hold rooms have much taller ceilings N’orlea...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I was pointing out his timeline is off. He was arguing it was a premier retailer from 80s to 00s and picked some companies that opened stores after that timeline as evidence it stopped having premier retailers. You did too to a degree Halls: through 2014 FAO Schwartz through 2009-17 Burberry throug...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
The Plaza was so upscale it had a McDonalds for decades. You're looking for something it never was and complaining it's becoming something it's always been. I don't know that this is fair. The plaza certainly was (is?) a "premier shopping destination". Certainly before the big retail boom...

I would wager to bet Hyperloop gets done before the streetcar line gets extended from Union Station to the Plaza.

Kind of cool to think we will have Hyperloop between KC and STL before a trolley line running from Union Station to the Plaza.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Punch Bowl Social is better suited for the P&L crowd but at this stage I’ll take just about anything on the Plaza. I’ve essentially given up on the Plaza ever returning to a premier shopping destination and simply looking for ways for it not to be entirely boarded up.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I haven’t following for like the last 100 pages, but when are we supposed to get the trolley to go from Union Station to the Plaza? Assuming some time after 2030.
