Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Agreed 100%. I live South Plaza now, but for a year, I lived on the Plaza and was walking distance from pretty much all necessities. That said, the Plaza could use an upscale "convenience" store, IMO. Kind of a hybrid CVS, QT, Birbiglia all mixed into one. Something walking distance f...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
I read yesterday (maybe The Star?) that by waiting until AFTER the council meeting to veto the ordinance, the mayor forced the council to wait until next week's meeting before they can override the veto. And a significant number of council members were scheduled to miss that meeting, so Funk would ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Aren't there are a tons of lots along Main just north and south of the Plaza that are empty and much cheaper than property on the Plaza for a Target? Not to mention the amount of traffic (cars, not pedestrian) a Target would bring. Free parking in the Cheesecake and Halls lots couldn't handle Targ...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
According to The Star, the Council says Funk will veto the volunteer ordinance: http://www.kansascity.com/news/breaking_news/story/802920.html “What doesn’t the mayor understand about 12-1?” Ford said. Riley concurred, saying Funkhouser has told council members there will be a lawsuit over the issue...

Re: Perkins voted top sports exec. in the world
First off, it's public voting, which makes this poll no more scientific than American Idol voting. Perkins could have had 3,000 of his friends, KU students, athletes or whoever call to support him. That said, maybe America doesn't care what KU sports does, and maybe they didn't deserve to win the ...

Makes a person wonder if she even ran her 'Front Porch' by him before sending it out. If she's speaking for the Mayor and if people can access her blog via the KC city website, then she needs to take some accountability.

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
And the drama continues: http://funksfrontporch.typepad.com/ Looks like she considers herself as the First Lady of KC, rather than a volunteer when in the office: Just to be clear: I do not “volunteer” for the City of Kansas City. The title of First Lady was handed to me the moment that my husband w...

This building is almost completely torn down now - hope they don't end up replacing it with a surface lot.

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
I hope so.. The council laid an egg, wasted time, and simply reacted by passing this ordinance. A good example of group think. Vote them out. I hope I have a choice in my district next election. You and countless others would have been the first in line to bitch about the next volunteer in a city ...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
It's unbelievable to me how someone in his position had to be taken to the edge (his edge) before realizing he should compromise and listen to others in order to get things done. The people who voted for him, I'm assuming, based their decision on HIS views, not a two-person show.

He looked like he was ready to cry when the news cameras were there. Let's see what happens Sept 29 when she has to drop him off at work. So now he'll either be on the phone all day talking to her or he'll be a strict 8-5 guy so he can get home as quickly as possible.

Previous reports said that Volker wasn't an option because the Stowers Institute is too close to the street and there wouldn't be enough room for cars and light rail on that stretch

LOL on the Andy Rooney. ESPN Zone I can understand, but for me there's nothing more boring than CBS sports. I'd rather go to have a bucket o' freedom fries at the C-SPAN Zone.Tosspot wrote: Maybe they'd have Andy Rooney stop by and sign autographs. That'll be a crowd pleaser.

Sluggish condo sales at San Francisco tower have led to Crown Center Development Corp putting additional residential on the slow track. The building across from the new Fed Reserve is the photo studio and unlikely to move back into the main complex for now. I'm under the impression that some of th...

If you want something great, try the torta pastor at El Rancho in Westport. Sammich with different meats, seasoning, jalapenos, queso fresco, avocados, etc. all made fresh while you watch. Never had anything there that wasn't amazing and inexpensive (except the guac was bland). And open late. For ca...

I went to a Studio Movie Grill in Dallas over the summer - it beat any 'drinks/dinner-with-movie' cinema I've been to. Each row had seating on the screen-side with a bar/chairs that ran from wall to wall, while the projector-side featured small bistro tables and chairs. The tables could be pushed t...

3 years ago the Parks/Boulevards folks had major issues with power lines going down Grand, creating visual noise. Have they changed position? And the Star article has to throw this bit into the mix: Bob Dunphy, a senior resident fellow at the Urban Land Institute in Washington, found Cordish’s posi...

Re: 39th Street Condos
Excellent points - thanks for some sanity. The entire point of having incentives is to support projects that the City's own plans say it wants. In this case, more density, more streetfront retail, hidden parking, etc. It's precisely what this corridor needs more of. But if the City's own boards won...

Re: Bice
They need time to get into a groove, and once the Bice execs leave in a week or so and the staff turnover settles down (normal for any new place) it should be easier to tell how the place is doing. I went last week with five friends and shared the following: Tuna tartare - very good, but not a fan o...
