Re: The Health Care Debate
Yes, I read the rest. But is it a tax or isn't it? I understand that a word can have different meanings given its context but in this case the context is how the law is written not how it is argued. Methinks Justice Roberts liked the intent of the law but felt the law didn't really pass the smell t...

How do you get landlord and employer information from the JoCo website? And who pays for the mailings, billboards, etc.?
This guy is just trying to create fear.

Preservationists want to save Kemper http://www.kansascity.com/2012/06/27/3680275/kemper-arenas-future-dims-preservationists.html I don't claim to understand some things. Save buildings that may actually have a use in the future, not an old facility that will need huge amounts of maintenance in the...

America's best burger cities No. 8 Kansas City, Mo. Once home to the nation’s second-largest livestock area, this is a serious beef town—it even won the barbecue category this year. The city’s best gourmet burger option may be at Blanc Burgers + Bottles, which offers watercress and truffle butter a...

Re: KC beneficiary of young people "boomeranging" home?
It probably seems "suburban and boring" if you never leave Overland Park, Blue Springs, or whatever, which seems to happen to quite a few kids anymore. It's kind of weird to give directions for something ten miles away and has been there 'forever' (say Bartle Hall, for instance) to someone...

Continuing the discusison about the Rock Island Corridor from http://forum.kcrag.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=15963&p=491283#p491283, Here are some images from along the route. There's some big cuts and big fills, not to mention that the rail bed is narrow and raised for a lot of the route too.

It's kind of hard to tell what they want anymore. A while back they were pursuing the Katy Trail, but I haven't heard much about it at all lately. MARC's regional plans have parts of it tagged as a bike trail (http://www.marc.org/2040/assets/plan/BikePedMap_AllProjects.pdf), yet a thing published in...

vis·ta/ˈvistə/
1. A pleasing view, esp. one seen through a long, narrow opening: "a vista of church spires".
2. A mental view of a succession of remembered or anticipated events: "vistas of freedom".
I'd say the second one is accurate for this project.

Re: Kansas City to get 2012 MLB All-Star Game
Most of what detracts from Kauffman is the lack of development around it. There is hardly anything besides the stadiums from I-435 to Pittman and I-70 to 47th Street. Convince some company or office development to go in that vast area, and you'd have an employee base really close to whatever goes on...

It looks like the annexation has gone through already. Lee's Summit city limit signs have moved down the road a couple of miles, and there's a few for sale signs on the south side of Colbern.

It looks like the city issued a demolition permit about 10 days ago. Capitol Federal is listed as the owner of the property on some county stuff, so it looks like the bank will take up the land there.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
It was very easy to find references to a masterplan... but much harder to actually track it down. Your best bet is to do a Google image search, type in "kansas city zoo master plan site:zoochat.com", and attempt to piece it together from there.

They were building tank trucks at the Kenworth facility when my dad worked for them. I think they shut that down around '83-'84. I'll have to ask him.

Re: P&L Building
I assumed architectural firms do quite a bit of design work, and in this case BNIM seems like a no brainer. Actually, they already seem on board for the redevelopment. I'm not really sure where I said that they should spend that much money.

Re: P&L Building
It seems like BNIM should be really involved in fixing up the building. Their website tagline even says "Architecture firm with a focus on sustainable architecture" - what better showcase project than fixing up the building where their headquarters are located?
