Re: Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood - A Study in Neighborhood Reclaimation
^^ this is why i don't watch the news... that stretch of benton immediately adjacent to the avenue is like a moat of human shit you have to wade through to get into our neighborhood. the irony is that it is home to my single favorite house in all of kansas city: benton and thompson, ne corner. per...

i'm sorry i mentioned it. i actually wanted to know if anyone had any insight into why the charter schools ceded, (i.e., what sort of decision-making authority independence will grant them in terms of curriculum, discipline and resource allocation) and what the potential for improved results is.

i know that a lot of posters here don't have children, and i think this issue kind of gets ignored when people talk about viable urban culture, but i personally feel functioning public education is the number one barrier between kc in its current state and kc as we'd all like to see it. i think mos...

Re: An Afternoon in the Southmoreland Neighborhood
a good friend of mine lives in that building. the upkeep is a little "collegiate" for lack of a better word, but the apartments are big, cheap, and the location is killer. the places on the south side of 43rd, on oak and environs are quite a bit tidier and better kept. some of them are ...

it is going to be impressive. i think this project and the nelson expansion are the most exciting things going on in town right now. i keep think about how the building will look coming into the loop from i35 or i670, but i hadn't even considered how nice the vista will be FROM the building.

^^ I don't understand, can you elaborate? i'll try. its harder to write down than to show you on a map, but i know you are more familiar with these routes than me, so bear with me: the 47, what the fuck is this route? its not n/s its not e/w, its not a loop. it ridiculous. the 39. why the jog ...

Re: Think the KCATA is bad?
my least favorite thing about the kcata, and i understand this criticism could be leveled at 99% of systems in the country, is that the routes are designed for destination patterns instead of being designed for coverage. there may be some reason for this, but i suspect it is just to pander to certa...

glad you could find the opportunity to casually slip the last acceptable racial epithet in our culture into an internet thread about urban sprawl neologisms. you should be proud of yourself.See also: design abortion, white trash, trailer trash.

there are also at least 2 international bus lines in town. moving them from their sw blvd and kck locations to union station would be another step in the right direction (give them a tax credit). i know most of the hispanic social services are still based on the westside, but the hubs of kc's firs...

hmmm...some of my fondest memories are of running around a small neighborhood pub in topeka, with my brother and sisters, as my parents sat at the bar or one of the booths. my father always drops peanuts in his beer, and when he finished he'd let us eat the peanuts. my wife and i spend most friday ...

i rode commuter buses when i lived in northern spain, and in the mountain of southern and central mexico pretty extensively. usually i got dizzy and sick. other people were amused by this.

correction: we use our transportation hub to house the entrance to a failed children's science museum which is in more of an appendage to a building which is maybe challenging as an intra-urban transportation hub, but is apparently well suited to its current function as the world's biggest fucking ...
