Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
In the early seventies BAP was almost gone forever. Before Bartle Hall was built there was a proposal to build an exhibition hall over BAP. It would have extended over 13th and obliterated the north facade of Muni Auditorium.

Re: Sad...
Maybe having 71 as a demarcation is a positive thing for the neighborhoods between it and Troost. It does not seem as overwhelming a goal to renew this area as when it is perceived as contiguous with the rest of the huge expanse of east side disinvestment.

Re: Sad...
The renewal shifting east is not because of the highway, other than a lot of people like the freeway access that the nicer areas to the west do not have. The highway was built 30 years ago. Troost has been the division since WWII, and it is not a freeway. It is an organic thing caused because of loc...

While tending the front yard today was approached by both a yes and a no canvaser within a couple hours of each other. They both offered yard signs.

Re: Sad...
From reading these comments it appears most are not aware of what is happening in the "near" east side, that is between Troost and 71 . Younger would be homeowners(white, black and anything else) priced out of other parts of the city are moving in. Some into flips, some by sweat equity. Mo...

To see any new construction in the north loop is fantastic. It has been unchanged since the Whitaker Courthouse thirty years ago.

Looks indistinguishable from exteriors of any "luxury" apartments recently developed. The current homes scream Sixties HUD. But could have included some housing more like row homes instead of all apartments. If they are wanting to attract buyers.

Re: East Side Development
The brick Olde Towne style looks nice with the old brick building, but why not rear alley garage access? Both the other phases of the Beacon Hill build out have it! Some day this little pocket will have a greatly expanded population when Tension Envelopes becomes lofts(not inferring that will be any...

Re: East Side Development
Great project. In the heart of the East Side, Benton Blvd is one of the few areas that still has the bones for a revival and could be a locus for reinvestment. They even have planned for 6 plex apartments similar to the classic KC colonnades.

Re: Trees in KC (ongoing)
City manager's response was to my e-mail. I am impressed, but will be more impressed to see if it actually happens. I told him how I tote buckets of water across traffic to the median and have kept a couple 3rd year trees alive while most of the others in the neighborhood are dead.

No mention of a watering program. Such a waste of effort and money and lack of common sense.
