Re: Cities would line up to woo Chiefs, Royals
So where would they go? This has been beaten to death here and in many other venues for a long time - there just aren't viable options. There have been several baseball owners the last couple decades who actually honestly wanted to move (unlike our owners) but no one has other than Montreal. Why...

Re: Cities would line up to woo Chiefs, Royals
amazing how many pro teams have moved in the last 10 years and you still read this type of stuff. Agreed. If the Royals announced they were looking for a new home, they'd have multiple and serious offers within seconds. The argument that there is no where for them to go is either wishful thinking...

Re: What Could KC Do With a Billion Dollars...
Hypothetical, now...If KC had a billion dollars to spend... I'd suggest a light rail or modern streetcar spine and downtown loop. As has been demonstrated by more progressive cities like Denver, light rail spurs a considerable amount of development above and beyond what is spent on the line itself....

Re: Questions Fail - Downtown Baseball?
Kansas City can have a vibrant DT without a stadium. Afterall, the current plans for DT have taken place without a stadium so it should survive without it. Or are you actually saying DT will not survive without it? I agree with the statement that KC can indeed have a vibrant downtown without down...

Re: Official: Arrowhead Final Four Speculation
Kietz just made a good point. The NCAA requires a "test" run with a regional final before the Final Four. So, this would mean the Sprint Center would have to give it up. He was aiming this remark at Barnes, since she was promoting it, which makes it sound a little odd. Either way it wo...

Re: Tornado tower resurfaces
I know that, but it's total BS. Independence Center draws more people than that bass pro. The same kind of people too, shoppers, both local and from a more regional aspect, etc. People don't vacation and plan trips around bass pro. It's a damn retail store. Just like Cabela's is not the top &quo...

College athletics are funded by big pocketed boosters as well. Chicken, dorks, whatever you want to call them. Have at it. It makes you feel better. While this is an accurate statement, college sports (which I am addicted to) draw donation money that could/would have otherwise gone into betterin...

Re: Most Millionaires in US (CNN)
For the last few years I have become basically obsessed with becoming one of the wealthy. I realize I will never win the lottery, but I believe that with 20-30 years of work, I could easily be quite wealthy by making smart investment choices now. I currently invest and save about 20% of my income. ...

Most Millionaires in US (CNN)
Warning: This thread may elevate blood pressure in billionaire-obsessed Nebraskans to dangerous levels. Cities with the most millionaires in US. As you might have expected, most millionaires live on the coasts but Houston and Chicago also in top 10. Omaha not in top 10. http://money.cnn.com/2006...

Re: Union Hill
Moving to KC. What's the real story with Union Hill? Good place to move? Sketchy? I have my eye on this area as a place to live when I move back to KC. I visited some homes during the home show several years ago and fell in love with the place. Great neighborhood right in the thick of things w...

they are ripping out the front wall behind the columns as we speak. the plaza is loud as hell today with jackhammers from the saks building and banging from the west edge construction. didnt have my camera with me, but its like downtown over there. That's a start I guess, it's the outer brick facad...

Re: Residential Projects Downtown (All Status')
I suppose technically the first Cordish P&L Condo could be said to be under construction - they have dug a hell of a big hole where the Jones Store was - but I don't believe they have gotten passed the pushin' dirt stage yet. That seems to be a common occurrence across the Cordish landscape. ...

Re: Official: Arrowhead Final Four Speculation
The 88 finals were a bone to KC on the 50th anniversary. The NCAA policy is to place all FF in Domes since then. The idea of being outside, even if under a roof, seems laughable. Indianopolis made a tremendous bid to unseat the NCAA, while our city fathers sat on their hands. KC had assumed since i...

Re: Westport Flea Market GONE?
Swung through Westport the other day, went to Sonic to get a Cherry Lime-aid. As I sat in the drive-through I asked myself; why the furor over the Westport Flea Market? The building is a dump, blue and white awning or not. Westport would have only been so lucky to have a Hooters there. The "F...

Re: Official: Arrowhead Final Four Speculation
This all depends on whether or not the rolling roof could create a climate controlled environment (wasn't this discussed somewhere else?). If so, the answer if of course we would get the final four. KC has a BIG history with the NCAA that will not be easily forgotten by either party. We are unequ...

Re: Questions Fail - Downtown Baseball?
I'm voting no on Questions 1 and 2 solely because it precludes the downtown baseball option for another generation. Before we move on to downtown baseball we do have to resolve the current lease default and the future of Arrowhead. First priority should be an August election for the $80 band-aid ...

Re: "outdoors" recreation in and around KC. (hiking, camping, climbing, etc.)
i am sure there are some people on this site who like to participate in outdoors recreation - camping, hiking, climbing, trailrunning, and the like. i have only recently become interested in this sort of thing. (i used to be a colossal wuss when it came to insects and less-than-perfect weather). ...
