Everyone, has there been any hint of progress with this? ..Does it remain a hole in the ground without identifying signage?

Re: Is Midtown Marketplace one of the city's greatest blunders?
When constructed in the late 1990's; the Midtown Marketplace was considered a "intensive redevelopment" to an area harboring an immense perception problem. Yes, today M.M appears to be a skin graft of North Antioch, Gladstone onto South Main, KCMO. That is an illustrative point: It is my b...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte
The Holtze/Kerr partnership did make a compelling series of financial arguments favoring incentives. It would require an incredibly stupid individual to not rationalize "Tax revenue of $1,000,000 annually now is greater than $3,000 presently." ..Add in the infamous "employment head ta...

The condo "calculation" problem is not unique to Kansas City. Aside from vacation-intensive (think: Palm Beach, Miami, Honolulu) and high-price cities (NY, Chicago, Toronto); the Condominium business structure is under pressure.. a. Finance for Condominium properties is difficult for the i...

Re: Affordable Housing
Out-of-town ownership is not much of a surprise. Consider this: Nearly every major apartment complex is owned by a corporate entity; not based in the KC Metro. As for correlation between local ownership or out-of-town ownership; it would be safe to suggest there IS NO correlation: Rental units are a...

Re: Three Light
Really think Cordish needs to offer for sale units. Or design a garage that can be converted in the future? They want to and up until the last minute, had planned to offer some for sale units in 3L. From what I'm told, the financing and overall process is more complicated with high-rise condo devel...

It would not be a surprise if the pedestrian section of the bridges are given a streetscape to encourage the foot traffic.
..It is a less expensive option than a full-up capping of the expressway.

Re: Sky and Cordish $253M project
Let's all be cautiously optimistic: The key to this is whether the financing will fall into-place. Conjecture: Cordish is already exposed with the #3 development. Hence the JV approach to this development. Whatever the case, it is good news. Cordish has been moving their product successfully. They h...

@Fang: Gotta go to the Peanut at 9th and Washington.. It's "dive" and "wonderful" at the same time. Reminiscent of the little SoHo/Tribeca joints before they became "the shit". - Hoboken like. And John's on a summer night when they have a band on the roof, as it echos. ...

I'll learn to attach photos, eventually.. I might respectfully suggest a counter-point: BMA tower was built on the park; on a pedestrian un-friendly plat. WDAF is total crap; with green space needed to support that (functionally obsolete) transmitting antenna support tower.. 27th street offers a fai...

Re: Office project at 27th & Main
The idea of reduced parking requirements is based on the supposition there are alternatives.
Stating the obvious: The streetcar is a people mover within downtown.
Until regional rail becomes real and adopted; the car will remain king. KC is still 20-30 years away -- at best.

Absolutely not. In the 1970's through the 1990's; it was dangerous downtown. Either your mom and dad or the local news told you this. Either way, they were both liars. Quite the emotional response. I am in my 40's. I lived at 204 E. 30th street from 1996 through 2001, at the crest of Union Hill. At...

Corporate Woods was the response to high crime (and perceived crime) in the 1970's and 1980's ..I do agree (an opinion): Corporate Woods is the icon of urban decay, white flight, and urban sprawl in KC-land. It is a manifestation of urban flight due to bad management of Kansas City. The current May...

Odd how a negative opinion on aesthetics can be represented as "factual". "Corporate Woods" is used as a negative connotation. That said, the HR Block building, 1201 Walnut, Pershing Place, and new Loews Hotel.. --all glass buildings with similar design aesthetics as the (propose...

Here's to the developer recognizing this block was always intended for an iconic structure (per Hallmark). The property is prominent from all angles. This project appears further along than most proposals; the architecture proposed for the building was certainly tailored to the space. Whomever is co...
