Re: KCK: New Urban Frontier (For Gentrifiers/Artists/Hippies/Yuppies, anyway).

Don't forget the obvious attraction that parts of eastern WYCO are gorgeous!  The area I'm most familiar with is Rosedale/Turkey Creek watershed, which is a lot like the Ozarks (in more ways than one).  Where else could you have a pony in your yard AND a view of downtown?

Re: Mission Cliffs

I think this must be the development going in just off Mission Road.  As you're driving up the big hill, before the park, there are some small light industrial buildings on the east (left) side of the road.  They've been doing site prep back behind the buildings for a while (clearing brush, grading,...

Re: Bella Roe Plaza - Roeland Park

I have the same reaction to the side facing Roe -- what were they thinking?!?   They have made an effort with the restaurant on the corner and the fountains to have some sort of sidewalk presence, so I'm hoping (optimistically) that the dirt along the sidewalk implies that there will be some sort of...

Re: HELP!!!!!! APT ADVICE

Actually, from the Plaza, you'd probably be better off going up 71 to downtown -- at that point you're already past the stop lights.

Re: HELP!!!!!! APT ADVICE

You might also look for a rental in the 66205 (Roeland Park, Mission) or 66103 (Rosedale) ZIP codes.  Easy access to both I-35 and I-70 with a  reverse commute to Gardner and Independence (once you get past downtown, which is close).  You'd also be close to the Plaza, Westport, and the rest of midto...

Re: The kitchen's still open!

We found out about that Denny's the hard way.  Walked in right as they were closing (a non-24-hour Denny's!?!), and detoured to Chubby's.

The kitchen's still open!

OK -- lay it on me!  Where are the best places in downtown/midtown to get something to eat after 10pm?  No price restriction, but quantity doesn't equal quality.

Re: Westport - Greek Islands spot

City planning dept. is currently in the process of re-writing the zoning ordinances, and parking will be one of the big issues.  The current schedule is to have the draft ready for public comment some time in late summer.  Keep your eyes peeled and be ready to comment when it hits the streets!

Re: OFFICIAL: HOK headquarters

I got to tour this building last month, and I have to say that it is spectacular inside .  I know it looks like a big glass box from the outside, but from the inside you have fantastic views in all directions -- downtown, the River Market, and across the river.  And the use of all the windows means ...

Re: Des Moines: New 13 story mixed use building

BTW, the former garage/proposed building is right across the street from the Racoon River Brewing Company ( http://www.raccoonbrew.com ), home of some truly excellent IPA, and the Fort Des Moines Hotel, a restored old hotel in Downtown that actually seems to have people staying in it.  It's also aro...

Re: Renting in Waldo

You might call George Norton management.  They run a couple of apartment buildings in Waldo (at Gregory and Oak) and in Brookside (a 64th and Brookside).  There is no publicity about vacancies, other than tiny ads in the classified. I lived at Gregory Gardens (71st and Oak), and I was renting a two-...

Re: Help me find the best place

I mentioned this in another thread with someone looking for an urban/suburban compromise.  Not all JoCo neighborhoods are the same.  Take a look around northeastern Johnson County -- Mission, Roeland Park, Fairway -- in the neighborhoods between Mission Hills/Prairie Village and Wyandotte County.Â...

Re: first-time homebuyer blues.

I would echo what KCMax said upthread -- all JoCo neighborhoods are not the same.  We bought a small house in Roeland Park last year.  I'm less than 5 minutes from I-35, so I can be anywhere in the metro in less than 30 minutes.  I can also walk or bike to Westport or the Plaza.  You are also right ...
