Re: KC metro gaining as a major distribution hub
Between the Montgomery building and Hardesty complex, the Northeast has two major industrial sites that have fallen into various levels of blight that would take deep pockets to turn into something modern that would be a benefit for the neighborhood. I don't go to this area much, but from streetvie...

Cool shot posted on r/kansascity. Looks like they're doing something to the Liberty Memorial fountain/reflecting pool

Re: Companies moving downtown
Would yo7u be bothered if downtown fills up and companies start looking east to build new buildings? The real premium locations are 15 minutes closer for people who ride the bus. I've always imagined the skyline pushing east. It's the only direction that really seems suited to real towers. Quality ...

Re: Companies moving downtown
The problem is that these low rise buildings will take premium locations that could then not be used for actual high rises or nice demand and density continues to increase in future years. I have to think we’ll have some regret losing these prime spots. This is also one of my arguments against a do...

Came across pictures of this cool building in Amsterdam, where they rebuilt a shop with part brick and part glass block. https://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2016/04/crystal-houses-chanel-store-amsterdam-glass-bricks-mvrdv_dezeen_1568_4.jpg https://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2016/04/crystal-houses-chane...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)
It's so yellow. It's a bad camera exposure, it's not really that yellow Cool, I was wondering if that was just the photo or if it looks different in real life. I think this shot represents better what it looks like in real life. It's pretty light, but definitely not yellow. Not sure what happened w...

Re: Companies moving downtown
There’s absolutely no reason the Bolling building will be torn down in the foreseeable future. In fact, I’d be willing to say that, of kc’s midcentury modern buildings, it’s one of the least likely to ever be demolished

Re: Companies moving downtown
17 stories was disappointing, but 12 stories is absolutely laughable. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great something is getting built, but that height is more appropriate for the crossroads than the loop

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project
Since we haven't heard many details about the Muehlebach itself, it's probably still nowhere near a complete design. Perhaps it could become a mix of apartments and hotel rooms? The Hotel Indigo up the street is like that, with apartments occupying the top floors.

Re: Poll: #1 development goal for urban KC
Can you even have density without walkability naturally increasing though? I don't think I could name a place that's dense yet unwalkable.
Even if the streetscape is total trash, you'll still have everything a shorter walking distance away.

Re: Book Recommendations!
I'd highly recommend this book to everyone on the forum, Kansas City and How It Grew, 1822-2011. https://i.imgur.com/OfmvI2a.png Unlike many KC history books, this one explains how the city grew and changed from a geographical perspective. It describes unbuilt schemes, the makeup of the city's geolo...
