Re: Random Pictures of Kansas City

The Western Auto building was probably administrative offices for Coca-Cola. Nell Donnelly also had her garment factory ther...

The Victor Beutner House at 1800 E. 39th (39th and Forest). It's in the Mannheim Park neighborhood. This is a Louis Curtiss-designed house, completed in 1911, that is in terrible distress and needs a savior.

The Corrigan-Sutherland mansion at 1200 W. 55th Street (NW corner of 55th and Ward Parkway) in the Sunset Hill neighborhood. This home, completed in 1913, is considered by many to be local architect Louis Curtiss' masterpiece. According the UMKC architectural historian George Ehrlich, the home has...

The Calvert Hunt mansion at 3616 Gladstone Boulevard. I describe this as beaux-art nouveau architecture. The architect was John McKecknie. The home was completed in 1904.

The Roland Bruner mansion, also called "Mineral Hall," was completed in 1904. The house at 4340 Oak Street was designed by Kansas City architect Louis Curtiss in what the KC Library describes as an "eclectic Prairie Style amalgam of Second Empire Art Nouveau and Neoclassic elements.&q...

Re: P&L District: 14th & Main Site Proposal
I think one of the mistakes Kansas City makes is not embracing its' colorful past more. It's like the intent is to keep the perception of the city as bland as possible. Kansas City has an interesting and intriguing past, and it fails to exploit any of it well.

Re: Renewal of 1-cent sales tax to fund infrastructure improvements
But without the tax abatements, the buildings may sit empty and generate little revenue anyway. Independence has wide-scale tax abatement program in its' historic district around the business district and Truman home and it is transforming that neighborhood, and the entire area. I'm sure the tax aba...

The school boundary vote wasn't even close. I think the message that voters are sending to the KCPSD is that changes must be made soon, and that voters are prepared to take the most drastic steps to bring it.

Re: P&L District: 14th & Main Site Proposal
I think enough time has elapsed since the River Quay mob wars that it wouldn't have any effect on the P&L District. Certainly, it's time to be able to reclaim the River Quay name as part of our history. The mob elements actually adds some interest to it.
