Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
IK a developer who reached out wanting to build residential and retail. Was told there isn’t an interest in deviating from the retail only plans. They might change their mind if Dillards decides not to come to the Plaza. How likely is Dillard's anyway? Seems like there was a flourish of speculation...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Random Plaza updates: - Himiway e-bike dealer opening soon (Nichols by Tivol; former Archive space) That's interesting - An ebike dealer on the plaza. Are they keeping their Oak Park location as well or moving? I believe them using the old Brookstone was just a test space as it’s becoming Gearhead ...

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time
Seems that Jupiter was a part of Kresges back then to compete with TH&Ys five and dime. They had a store across the river in Kc Kansas around 7th street if my memory is correct. Jupiter was the fate of many Kresge Stores as they lost profitability, but still had time left on their lease. It was...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
This seems to be a worse problem in KC than many other cities. Before people go off on me, many other cities have much worse problems.... I think it seems worse in KC because KC only has a few areas in the city to go, Plaza etc. so you just see it more. Anyway, the plaza, sometimes Crown Center, an...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Someone at corporate contacted me after complaining about Dillard's in a department store group on Facebook. They're still prepping a proposal for a 3-story 180,000 ft2 store on the Nordstrom site, which will come at the cost of the higher-end lines continuing to be offered at the other three stores...

More Olathe industrial news. An unidentified retail company's subsidiary, 1918 LLC, was approved to be issued up to $257 million in industrial revenue bonds to build a $152 million beef carcass processing and packaging plant in Olathe, Kansas. The plant will be responsible for the Choice Beef cuts ...

Re: Oak Park Mall
I just spoke with employees at both Dillard’s. The plan is to vacate the men’s store within the year and eliminate most of the higher end lines from the women’s store in preparation for future plans. They wouldn’t exactly say that they’re essentially bailing on Oak Park for the Plaza, but they didn...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I just posted about this in the Oak Park thread, but the employees at both Dillard’s wouldn’t confirm or deny that the reason that they’re on a fast track to combine the two Oak Park stores and are eliminating a lot of the nicer merchandise at the woman’s store is to prepare for a new location at th...

Re: Holiday Inn reopens in former Comfort Inn on Admiral, Charlotte
20 million on a renovation? How much would a new 5-6 story building have been? I know Drury Inn was thinking about building on old KCMO school board door. Perhaps they could have built something on that spot besides what is there. I think Drury would be a nice addition downtown amongst the other na...

Re: Wichita
Good news for Wichita! If the plant gets to full capacity they are estimating that over 5,000 jobs (including jobs brought by ancillary companies) would be brought to the metro, which would be great for the anemic growth inside the city proper and the flat out negative job growth in previously stabl...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Godspeed to Dillard’s to succeed in a part of the metro where they’ve already closed up shop five times… A mediocre big box clothing retailer found in every run of the mill mall in America is such a joke for the Plaza. Give me a break. Dillards? Dillards? That honestly the best we can do? We’ve gon...

Re: Oak Park Mall Update
I understand that. But it doesn't discount the fact that it's another major (area-exclusive) retailer that's pulling out. At the moment, the only "exclusive" stores left at Oak Park are Abercrombie, Oakley, Eddie Bauer, Fossil, Lush, and Lego. Build-a-Bear has two other locations, Hollist...

Idk if this is still their ideology but Zara has said they won’t expand to the Midwest USA. The people there wear larger sizes that don’t work with their European supply chain I think an Aritzia would be successful on the plaza To say that about Zara is ignoring that they're in suburban Cleveland a...

It may be related to this from years ago: https://www.kmbc.com/article/man-dies-after-falling-17-stories-from-westin-crown-center-hotel/3671217 Could be, but they were either still accessible right before Covid or people force their way out onto them as people were trying to watch the Super Bowl pa...
