Re: We need a new airport!!!
I heard there is confusion from non KCMO residents trying to vote Its almost like people have an expectation of having a say on the issues that affect them. Did they forget what country they are in? What planet they are on? Seriously though, win or lose, we need to transfer this to another entity. ...

Re: Anti-rail proposed ordinance
What happens if the anti-rail question and the streetcar expansion question both pass. Does this mean that the streetcar expansion can continue or does there need to be an additional citywide vote?

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Basically my understanding is this, dumbed down: 1. KC started talking about a new airport 2. The typical groups came out against, did a petition drive 3. The city agreed to hold a vote, assuming they would have to under state law anyway 4. City had more priorities, like passing the bonds, and aske...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
This whole debate is absolutely ridiculous. #1.) The title to this thread is misleading. It should be "we need a new airport terminal." For some reason, lots of people seem to get the idea that the entire airport needs to be replaced. Ridiculous ideas such as relocating it near Lee's Summi...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Yeah, all that happened too. Everything in Highlander's post, I've heard from the city. The problem is a lot of people don't care about or don't believe those points. It's amazing to read the comments in the Star every time this issue comes up. The fear of another Chicago O'Hare airport and raised ...

Re: Rams leaving St. Louis?
I think as the big 4 sports sees a decline in populatiry, it kind of already is among young people with more things like the Internet, Gaming, Extreme Sports interesting our youth I think more and more cities will start saying no to owners when it comes to public money and new Stadiums. Its already...

Re: Houston 2015
San Jose, CA has more street level dining, shopping, entertainment. Especially closer to the arena as well as along the light rail line.
It's not an amazing downtown, but it's certainly not one of the worst.

Re: Houston 2015
I was there about 3 weeks ago and I have to agree with the above poster. I came away very unimpressed. Houston easily has the worst downtown of the large Texas cities I visited (Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio). There were not a lot of street level restaurants (restaurants seemed to reside ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
^I've always thought San Diego's airport was a horrible location for being so close to downtown. This big chunk of land is basically being wasted on an Airport. I always thought you could build a nice neighborhood right were the San Diego airport is located. That airport was also the #1 airport in ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Are we really still talking about distance from downtown to the airport? Jeeze. Kansas Citians sure are stupid sometimes. NO city wants their airports close to downtown. It's bad business for everyone. Some are just plain stuck with it however due to existing investments. MCI's location is the envy...

Re: Macy's might be closing area locations
That article is very lacking in specifics.
Judging from Macy's past store closure history, I don't believe that they would close all of their stores in the area. The Metro North store though very well could be on the chopping block.

Yeah, the tea party isn't conservative, they're a group of well meaning and scared people being toyed with by a extremists politicians backed by corporate money that want their way no matter who it ends up hurting and it's hurting the very people that vote them in. That's what makes it really sad. ...

We don't have the level of confirmed corruption of the Meacham/ Symington era (which was before I was here) but the Arizona state government gives Kansas a run for its money on bad legislation, and not even two months into their terms, the Tea Party governor and Tea Party Superintendent of Public I...

Re: Slate: Why St. Louis should move to Illinois
It also comes down to education. A large part of the rural population doesn't advance past a high-school education--if that. In fact, in a lot of areas, the anti-education sentiment is very high, as well as the resentment factor. This is the hotbed of the anti-science, anti-intellectualism streak t...
