Re: Thrillist ranks KC burgers

The Union Hill Cafe Europa isn't exactly a burger joint, but it does have a tasty burger. I also think the bacon cheeseburger at Fric & Frac is pretty solid, although the fries are all over the map.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Does anyone know if the churches in Midtown are getting parishioners to sign up so they can vote no? I haven't heard a peep from my church, which is right on Main. I would guess -- although I in no way represent the parish -- that our leadership would be in favor of the streetcar extension, because...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

https://www.equip-bid.com/auction/search?auction_id=1949&item_status=open Is it true that Murrays is closing? Sad if true, but I have to imagine it's purely by choice. They were only open 3 or 4 days a week for about 5 months during the year. Love their ice cream, though. The Malt Bodine and Ch...

I got the BridjBOX invite too, although at the top of the site, it says:
BETA in Progress for customers with Boston, Brookline, and Cambridge addresses only.

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

Thomas has been "closed for remodeling" for several weeks, but given that its phone number's out of service and its Facebook page is gone, I'll go out on a limb and say it's not reopening.

Re: Bridj coming to KC

Any updates from folks? Has anyone used Bridj? I used it for the first time a few weeks ago. Reserved my spot the night before for $1.50. It was definitely the cleanest transport I've ever used. I was the only passenger between KUMed and downtown, so the driver let me off right at my destination in...

It does! Every once in a while I see something here that makes me think "Wow, I'm in a city," and tonight it was this. The columns are beautifully lit.

Re: 2014 - 2015 College Football Season

Given the history of the state and many universities in general no surprise at all. My mistake. As a relative newcomer, I am still learning that in many ways, Missouri appears to have more in common with its neighbors to the south than with its neighbors to the north. Iowa State and the U of Iowa w...

If Mizzou hadn't left the Big 12, maybe its administrators could have watched how Oklahoma's leaders handled that school's racist unpleasantness, and maybe they would still have jobs. Also: First black student in 1950? Boggles the mind.

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

I should be excited about something finally filling the Mama's space, but I am decidedly meh about this. Probably because, like the liquor store next door, it feels to me more like an enterprise of orneriness rather than filling a void in the area. For Asian cuisine, that stretch of 39th already has...

Re: Mo's Italian Spot - 59th & Prospect

Finally tried Mo's tonight with another former Chicagoan. Over our delicious sandwiches -- Italian beef dipped for her, meatball for me -- we were already talking about our next visit. I have nothing to say that hasn't already been said: homey little space, friendly staff, giant portions, excellent ...

Other than the fact that I would look down, hyperventilate in panic, and drown, this is a great idea.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I used to live 10 miles away from O'Hare, and when the flight paths were right, it was enough to prevent phone conversation inside my brick building. My (relative newcomer's) impression is that most Kansas Citians will not consent to the inconveniences that come with living in a larger city, be thos...

Re: Studio Lofts @ Grocer's Warehouse - new mixed-use project in Roanoke

I'm excited about this. This location has a little bit of everything -- peaceful woods, a taste of industrial grit, gorgeous Coleman Highlands, and then West 39th Street a short walk away. Roanoke Park has some great momentum behind it, and having another dozen or so neighbors, who I hope will engag...

The Colmar area is lovely. Lots of tiny towns with casually wonderful food and of course all that Alsatian wine. Riquewihr was my favorite -- a wee wonderland of intact architecture and an inordinate number of Michelin-starred restaurants. http://www.ribeauville-riquewihr.com/en/discover/riquewihr.h...

Just when I think Kansas' government has sunk to a new low, it surprises me once again.
"We need to trust the people of Kansas," LaTurner said. "I don’t think we can ever go wrong if we do that."

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

One of Walgreen's flagship stores would be a good fit, I'd think. In the checkout line of the one in Chicago, I was standing behind a guy buying a bottle of Dom Perignon.
