Re: Dismantling of Great Mall (ongoing)
I saw this piece on CBS Sunday morning about dead malls and how one in suburban Atlanta is thriving now by transforming into basically a Mexican village . In 2005 he took over a struggling, generic mall and transformed it into Plaza Fiesta, designed specifically to meet the needs of an exploding Hi...

Re: OFFICIAL: The Streets at Metcalf (Metcalf South redevelo
There will be rezoning and replatting, and that always requires public participating But this project is not to that stage yet. The mall just got bought and the design team was just brought on. This is being proposed as a "what does the community want us to build" meeting, not a "thi...

Re: OFFICIAL: The Streets at Metcalf (Metcalf South redevelo
This meeting is tonight. It will be interesting to see. I find it odd to have a meeting at all. It sounds like the developer is putting it on, but why? Do they really want to know that the public thinks? ..or are they getting "public participation" for a political advantage to do what they...

Re: Is KC a hit among millenials?
I was going to say that this has to do with young people being overly optimistic and older people being conservative and generally more pessimistic. But then I remember my boomer parents were scared of urban KC when they were young and keep the same views as they age. They are still a bit spooked to...

http://www.kansascity.com/2014/04/15/4961904/gateway-project-kansas-biggest.html The three-year, $288 million undertaking is the largest highway project ever done in Kansas. How much is the streetcar project? I drive this highway almost weekly, sometimes during rush hour. I rarely find the traffic ...

Re: Penn Valley QT
The combination of Main, Broadway, and SW Boulevard is probably wide enough to accommodate the traffic volume if SW Trfy went away tomorrow. That it went in shortly after the peak of KC's downtown and before the highways were finished makes me think it's at least drastically oversized and possibly ...

Old-timers tell me that tunnel was a rape/drug problem. Placing a hidden walk under a street has its drawbacks, though the idea sounds good.herrfrank wrote:The city should re-open the pedestrian tunnel there and perhaps add additional tunnels at 33d street and Valentine.

Re: OFFICIAL: The Streets at Metcalf (Metcalf South redevelo
I grabbed a mixed use aerial (Legacy Town Center in north Dallas) and plopped it on the site to get a sense of the possibilities. There are probably better examples, but this one came to mind as a developer friendly suburban example with similar regional conditions. Existing aerial on left. Scale is...

Re: The KCMO School District
Could the KCMOSD be broken up into a dozen school-based districts? Think about how most schools were formed in the 1800s and before the 1950s. If a school was needed, local leaders would seek to get district boundary set and then they would build a new school. Property taxes in the district paid th...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
If it wasn't so sad it would hilarious. I expect the Walmart to stay a part of this plan and all that other silly salesmanship stuff that makes it worth caring about to go. Then add a standard strip mall or another Big Box. Maybe Lowes would like to leave RP as well? This project has become a waste...

Fun Family Afternoon on KC Transit
We had a little family fun over the holidays via transit. Being a NE JoCo family with kids, we don’t use public transit too much. It’s just not too practical with school, job location and kid sports activities. (Some of you get this, others of you are rolling your eyes.) So for an afternoon adventur...

I am glad to hear Blanc is moving back. I went there at least every month when they were in Westport, but have only been to the Plaza location 2 or 3 times.

You almost have it, but you are still lacking a certain disrespect for sentence structure, punctuation and fluid thought. It takes years to mimic the mg master. Keep working on it!Eon Blue wrote:COrbin park maybe town Center or Legends have to find a pad site first maybe inside Ross in Blue Springs?

Re: Jimmy John's to open Drive-Thru restaurant at 9th & Broa
I don't know how my parents ever survived without a drive thru - lugging around two young kids and expecting them to get in and out of the car must've been a huge pain in the ass. Huh? They didn't haul us around, they left us in the car for 2 hours and hoped we knew how to open the window when we g...

This is the north side of the Polsinelli building, across from the old J.J's. If the explosion hadn't destroyed the J.J's building, this low-grade street experience would have killed the business.
