Re: Jackson County Regional Rail Plan
Commuter rail makes almost no sense at all in KC. It would be such a colossal waste of money to move so few people This is the crux of the issue. Commuter rail would be fine if you could just pour some concrete slabs for the stations and buy some trains. Should be nice and cheap. But infrastructure...

Re: Freight House Podium Project - 20th and Walnut
This development makes sense if you look at it in the context of there being a surplus of development sites downtown which are just sitting around waiting until its their turn to be built on. This development would be bad news if it indicated a lack of demand for new construction, but new proposals ...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
Acceleration/deceleration is more important than max speed for systems that have stops close together (ie, almost any local transit service). But regardless, I thought I remembered the KC streetcar vehicles having a top speed of around 55 mph?

Re: OFFICIAL - Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore
I was always nervous about any deal that involved Waddell & Reed. We can hope that they can find another tenant in time. This may have already been covered, but were there any corporate guarantors for the development/leasing of the building? If the payments are still flowing from somewhere , th...

Re: COVID19
Testing volume had been declining in the US but it bounced back up again last week. Part of this is because of Texas having highly incomplete reporting during the storm, which of course caused the number of reported cases to fall faster than it should have. When testing volume is irregular it's bett...

Re: 29 Belleview Town Homes
Zero lot line houses aren't unique to Kansas City. As far as I understand it, the purpose is just to make the side yards more functional by shifting the house to the side of the lot. KCMO allows zero lot line houses in every residential zone but townhouses are not allowed in the lower density ones. ...

Re: 29 Belleview Town Homes
Townhouses and zero lot line houses are not the same thing. A zero lot line house is defined as a house that has exactly one side yard. KCMO allows for both zero lot line houses and townhouses. Though for some reason there is a limit of 9 attached townhouses.

Re: Inclusionary Zoning
Maybe I missed something along the way, but I’d like to know what you all think the solution to the over gentrification of the cores of cities actually is? If inclusionary zoning is bad, then by what alternative mechanism do we ensure there will still be a place for low income people in our downtow...

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!
Right. The point I was trying to make was just that they were already said to be interested in the name and so they are probably the ones who registered it. I randomly came across something recently saying that the idea had been pitched to the players and was received positively.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.
This development site is massive. They can fit 300+ units on it in a standard six-story wood-frame building. It makes no sense to build a far more expensive tower.

Re: Highway Removal and Re-Aligment in Downtown
You're talking about a neighborhood that just shot down a very modestly scaled mixed-use development because they wanted more parking. Revitalized or not, that's not the type of neighborhood that should exist 10 blocks from the middle of downtown. In a healthy city, development expands outward from ...

Re: Highway Removal and Re-Aligment in Downtown
What does this give you except a connection of the north Westside to Crossroads for the elites? Removing all the scars from highways and railroads should be one of the city's top priorities when it comes to revitalizing the entire downtown area, including all of the adjacent neighborhoods. Those th...

Re: Highway Removal and Re-Aligment in Downtown
I'd assume that I-70 wouldn't be able to accommodate all the traffic from I-35 without major expansion throughout the stretch of shared roadway. What's the argument against routing I-35 along the edge of the West Bottoms? I know that idea has been around for a while. I'd do that and connect it direc...
