Grain Valley looks like it will be KC's next big suburb.
Independence will be sprawling for a quite a while still. They annexed farmland all the way east of 7 Hwy, like KCMO did with the Northland. Western Indep. will continue to struggle, but eastern part of the city has lots of farmland left to pave over.

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
No one pushing for the arena has made any claims that an arena alone will save downtown. But people opposed to the arena are arguing against this false perception. The point that proponents are trying to make is that an arena is one of many crucial things that need to be accomplished. e.g. the arena...

The lackluster performance of Union Station is largely tied to how much Science City sucks. They disguised the science so well that it's really just an expensive romper room with any real educational value. Then they added a giant movie screen when we already had the Imax at the Zoo. It just doesn't...

I'm building a house in the Northland
True maybe the future is here today, but I'd still like to see all of that land used more efficiently so that it takes another 30 years to fill it up, not 10. I guess what really bugs me is that a city of 300+ square miles should be able to comfortably hold over over a million people without feeling...

That's been around for at least a couple of years, I wonder if they are actually still planning to build it.

That's great news that the county is looking at a dedicated funding source. Now if only we could get the whole metro area hip to the idea of regional funding. On a related note, there is a meeting the evening of April 8 at Blue Ridge Mall to present proposals for reconstructing I-70 in Jackson Count...

I'm building a house in the Northland
Keep in mind I'd love to live in a new urbanism home in Shoal Creek but nothing's currently available and they probably won't start in the mid 130's either. Shoal Creek Valley is about to start taking reservations in their "Village" neighborhood, which I believe is the more mixed price ar...

I'm building a house in the Northland
Not to knock this development or your choice of where to live, but to me development in this area really seems like unneeded suburban sprawl and leap-frog development. We have enough available land south of M-152 to support Northland growth for years to come, yet we keep approving new developments l...

Re: I'm building a house in the Northland
Some questions I do have about the 291 corridor west of I-35 are what are the plans for future retail or office along this stretch of highway? I know MO-152 is getting plenty of action. Is MO-291 next? I'd appreciate anyone's comments. The house will be completed in about 6 months. http://www.kansa...

Downtown KCK - Is anything happening?
KCK has a lot of potential if they can continue reducing crime and blight, and make sure the development out west contributes something to their inner city areas. One thing in its favor is a relatively decent urban school district that has avoided the shenanigans of KCMSD. I have noticed more people...

Is Cordish Co. good for downtown?
We tried it before and it didn't work. The Power and Light District was gonna be built by Centertainment, which was Stan Durwood - the owner of AMC Theaters. Doesn't get much more local than that. The important thing is that we get the best people for the job, regardless of where they are from. We h...

Downtown KCK - Is anything happening?
Some church groups have been building new single family homes and townhomes in the area, but they need a lot more. The city/county claims they will use some of the new tax revenue from the Speedway and adjacent retail areas to help improve areas inside I-635, but there have been so many tax breaks i...

Missouri Economic Development
This is an interesing report on economic development opportunities and challenges in Missouri. There is a great quote about how the state needs to become better than the sum of its parts, rather than less than the some of its parts. I think the concept also applies to cities like Kansas City. There ...

danger, I don't see how suggesting that the neighborhood deciding their own identity and function as prejudiced. The prejudice part was directed towards the people that seemed horrified that there might be farmers and hunters taking over their coffee houses art galleries. It wasn't said, but I feel...

Bass Pro - DOWNTOWN?
The market for Bass Pro is much wider than these evil surbanites y'all are bitching about. These stores draw out of town visitors from hundreds of miles away, and would be a huge deal for conventioneers. That means in addition to buying fishing boats they are also spending money to stay at a hotel, ...

Re: I-70
Is there a website I can get all the info at? http://www.i70mis.org I really hope they decide to go or commuter rail. A couple of reversable express lanes in the middle would give it 5 inbound lanes for rush hours. If you want to see improvements on I-70 then make sure to start lobbying your state ...

Grain Valley looks like it will be KC's next big suburb.
Oak Grove isn't far behind. Next we'll be moving past the county line into Odessa in Lafayette County. If the office market in Independence ever gets off the ground things really explode, as proximity to the central business district would be less of an issue. Before we know it I-70 will be fully de...

Bass Pro - DOWNTOWN?
Talk is still surfacing on this stupid idea. ... Using this store as an anchor would alieniate all the people who want a chic, urban lifestyle. Reviving downtown is imperative, but turning it into a tourist trap is not. I totally disagree. The entire history of Kansas City is full of many rural and...

OFFICIAL - 909 Walnut construction
With high-end rental downtown a lot of the occupants would probably be somewhat transient, e.g. business people who are in town for an extended assignment but not long enough to make buying something worthwhile. Does anyone know how the City Place apartments in Westport are doing? I was also skeptic...
