Bed, Bath, & Beyond? What the HELL is Highwoods doing?
danger...there are already plans for one wine garden to go on the brush creek area.....should have started construction by now actually. Wasn't that the site awarded to the cruise boat operators as part of the deal to entice them into offering the cruises? If so that was a couple of years ago and n...

Union Hill/Trinity Lutheran site
City Hall is trying pretty hard to keep the Fed interested in the Loop, or at least the Riverfront Park.
The Trinity site would be excellent for residential, and could take the place of the proposal to give park of Penn Valley to developers for a residential project.

Weird observations on Boardwalk
This architecture is a response to the demand for something with more character than the late 80s / early 90s strip malls. Since it has "columns" and stone facades it appareantly counts as "quality" development. Sure there was an architect involved. They can't all be Frank Loyd W...

Bed, Bath, & Beyond? What the HELL is Highwoods doing?
Develop the Brush Creek Riverwalk by adding cafes and upscale nightclubs! It's a good idea, but where would you put them? There is no room between the creek and the street. Plus the first goal of the Brush Creek project was flood control - they have to leave room for high water. It just wasn't desi...

14th and Grand Arena
A big reason for putting it at 14th and Grand is so that it will be near Bartle Hall, since the convention industry will a big constituent of the arena. Many conventions want an on-site arena for assemblies and such. One of the reasons that the FFA left was that Kemper wasn't attached or within walk...

Weird observations on Boardwalk
The difference is... Boardwalk wasn't supposed to be a "strip mall"....it was supposed to be a "lifestyle center." Strip malls often are built on spec. needs, but regional shopping centers try to have something like 75% of leases signed before construction is done. so a "li...

Weird observations on Boardwalk
Is it just me or does Boardwalk seem to be in a really bad location with limited access via already clusterf*cked roads and intersections? I would guess most people will try to use road that connects the AMC strip mall to the Ford dealership and Wal-Mart, even though it's already a mess. There is an...

Weird observations on Boardwalk
This is pretty much how Eastland Center has been opening, just a little at a time, while Hartman seems to be close to have several of its retail stores opening around the same time.

Blue Springs now in race for Bass Pro? Where will they go?
JoCo needs star bonds like it needs another beige strip mall. It's purely greed. Even though Joco continues to thrive, they are jealous that other parts of the metro are registering big successes. (Even places like KCK that are in their own state) Everyone else is just worried about their fair shar...

Blue Springs now in race for Bass Pro? Where will they go?
Now that Kansas took their STAR bonds state-wide, MODESA is probably the only way Missouri will be able to put up a compettive bid if Bass Pro decides on money alone. MODESA is limited to downtown or main street areas, and downtown KCMO is the only one of those areas big enough to handle it.

Bed, Bath, & Beyond? What the HELL is Highwoods doing?
While we definitely need for the Plaza to be a big regional draw, we also need it to be balanced with basic services for residents of the area. Otherwise you make it less appealing for people live there if they have go out of the neighborhood for things like dry cleaners, child care, barbers, etc. Y...

Bed, Bath, & Beyond? What the HELL is Highwoods doing?
No surprise here, it's a continuation of the chaining trend started when the JC Nichols Co. sold out to Highwoods. As a Midtowner I think it would be great to something like this close by, but definitely not at the plaza. Midtown Marketplace would definitely be more appropriate, or how about The Lan...

'SoLo' retailers???
I wasn't proposing that we put The Shady Lady next to McDonald's, just that we acknowledge that this type of business is very important to a lot of the convention business that the retail district is supposedly geared towards. Some people think Bass Pro is too "hick" for Downtown, while so...

*GameWorks *A couple of local BBQ joints. Relocate Lil' Jake's to a bigger building there. *Muddy's and/or Latte Land. *sports bar or two. *A drug store, so the tourists have a convenient place to get essentials. *a nice strip club, again, for the tourists. *Mizzou store like the one in St. Louis (h...

More arguments against a hub airport
Yeah I know they decided they didn't want to spend the extra money to do it, but I wish they had done the compromise that was considered at one point - making the entire middle third of the terminal a security area and leaving the end thirds half/half like they are now. Since Sept. 11th I have alrea...

If only they had spent the money to put restrooms in the new security areas KCI would be even better, but it is still super easy to use.

Re: Main Street MAX
I was just in London last Nov and noticed 20-minute bus as well. The other thing I noticed in London was that they have far fewer bus stops, but they are nicer. We have bus stop signs at least every two blocks, and on many routes they are every block. In London the bus stops were at least 1/2 mile ...

Re: Main Street MAX
That ATA chose to build sub-par service spread out instead of good service in a core area that is more pedestrian oriented Those suburban services are largely funded by the suburban cities, as well as higher fares on those routes. That's why it is constant struggle to keep bus service in Independen...
