So, theoretically a rendering may be available (or description at least) later today when the full council's docket is posted on the clerks website. Here you go. https://twitter.com/cordishco/status/950737452448264193 Oh, sorry, that's St. Louis. Really starting to look like they hired an architect...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

I agree that this particular stretch of sidewalk doesn't get used much, so it really isn't a big deal, BUT we can't just let developers ignore the ordinance. Allow them to file for an exception (only if low sidewalk traffic) that has to be voted on by a committee or something.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

I don't think anyone else has brought this up yet, but Dollar General has a new(ish) concept, DGX. They have one in Raleigh, Nashville and Philly. It's small, almost more of a convenience store than a dollar general. A lot of these needs are probably filled by CVS or or Market3, but I could see it d...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

So there aren't true design problems as they state? the part (compressor) has flaws and does fail in very cold weather. the manufacturer is addressing it. should be noted that the reason CAF has a different compressor for cincy and KC is because of federal "buy america" requirements (the ...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

If it was a big problem, Amazon would've made a statement by not even including them in the top 20. Amazon will only pretend to be moral for as long as it is convenient to them. Laws on immigration are probably a big deal to them, the other stuff, maybe less so. I'm sure it all factors in, but less ...

Re: Fixing p&l traffic backups

http://i.imgur.com/bC6u08E.jpg Probably not. Either way, forcing cars to turn off after one block would still be a good idea. Toronto boosted travel times by 20-24% and boosted ridership by 25%. We would have to force cars to turn left off main at most intersections, rather than turn right, but it ...

Re: Fixing p&l traffic backups

We should ban cars traveling on main for more than a block, like in Toronto. We couldn't design the street so that they would be forced off, like they did, but at the bare minimum, it might stop google maps from routing people down main. Then once people have gotten used to using other side streets,...

Re: Fixing p&l traffic backups

Demanding better out of our quality of life...yes even during construction...isn't comical. It should be our standard that every construction project respects the already existing environment. If a company doesn't respect that lets get someone in here that does. I just got back from New York and wa...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

I hear everyone talk about universities and don’t understand that knock on us as a candidate. We are the largest metro area to: KState, KU, Nebraska, MU, MSU, ISU, etc. not count MS&T and other smaller universities. I'm not saying those are bad schools at all, I'm just saying that almost every ...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

I don't think it is fair to put it all on the site. Nashville, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Raleigh do all have top 60 universities located in the city. Indianapolis has some top universities in the rest of the state, and close to Illinois', which has a some great universities. But yeah, our sites were shit.

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

^Actually, that is a good point. The only higher ranked state universities already have their cities on the list, are in California, or are located a bit away from the cities that were bidding (Wisconsin, Michigan). I didn't realize Ohio state was so highly ranked.

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

^Doubt it. The shortlist actually muddies the message. It is hard to point to one thing that all those cities have and say "we need that". Some of them have horrible public transit, some of them have horrible biking infrastructure, some of them are pretty sprawly, some of them don't have a...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Nashville kind of makes sense- they just announced a huge transit plan, and it's got a great music scene. The real slap in the face (not to us as much as Minneapolis, Detroit, Salt Lake City, etc.) is Columbus. It seems they did have a definite preference for the east though. only 4 cities west of t...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Not good news. If only they'd consider Midtown in scope it might be more plausible. At least there are Amazon like services for hard to find goods/housewares. Function Junction in Crown Center helps a bit. A Target like store isn't critical but would be a nice score and momentum builder. If they ar...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

That is so stupid. The Kauffman is cool, but there is no reason you need to be able to see it from the liberty memorial. Just make whatever blocks it look better. Anyhoo, looking at the pictures from the liberty memorial, it looks like the west third of the building wouldn't block Kauffman, so they ...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Why is this site height limited to only two stories? Its only a block away from the convention hotel, which will be 20+, and the Opus apartments will be 6. Maybe we don't want something towering over the Kauffman Center, but 5-6 stories would be in scale. edit: I guess it is 4 on the south side, but...

Unfortunately, fast food places always insist on the drive through wrapping around 3/4 of the building, which would mean a. This or b. getting the building up against the sidewalk but adding a curb cut like this: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8932263,-87.631457,3a,75y,201.52h,98.69t/data=!3m7!1e1!...

Maybe the CEO really, really, really likes BBQ. Or fountains. Or places that aren't Connecticut. That's a pretty strong combo. In all seriousness though, that would probably be a first among corporate acquisitions if a company bought a rival and then move the HQ to where the rival was, halfway acros...

Hey, it can always get bigger-er and better-er. It may be ineligible if they attach a private developer or something, though.
