Re: Extreme Rich/Poor Divides-Here's Your Density
Homeless people in America can earn more in a day panhandling than 1 billion other poverty-stricken people do working in parts of the third world.

The morning NBC Action News team discussed local "rumblings" that the Garth Brooks concert series would be filmed for a future TV special, and that will be part of the reason Garth is at the dedication ceremony this morning--to announce that.

Re: Capping the Loop
I would trade surface lots around Nara and P&L for surface lots over I-670 if the former actually had buildings constructed on them as a result of the capping.

I've got my fingers crossed that everything I've stated will be wrong, and I'll be glad to be wrong. Still, past experience causes me to worry about this aspect of it. Can't help it.

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Because you need a population of opinion leaders and early adopters moving into new buildings in the District right away. They are the ones who will influence others and help drive the market. They will hold the cocktail parties and invite people over, and be the ones who convince their peers to m...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Yep, the current number of condos downtown are doing miraculous things. The CVS almost closed downtown and doesn't keep late hours. The City had to beg CVS not to close it. Azul is barely hanging on with forumers reporting visits where there might be two or three other tables full. The City has st...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
It just seems that the hired help, AEG and Cordish, are leading the horse here, instead of the City that invested so much in the project. The City seems "surprised" that the restaurants aren't opening until next Spring. The City seems "surprised" that so few tickets are availab...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
The City and Cordish know that the residential portion is among the most important components to this project. Getting residents downtown was one of Mayor Barnes' top priorities--increasing the downtown population was a stated goal. The City and Cordish could have worked on making building the res...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
But how many residential buildings went up in P&L initially? None. Residential is the most important component after the arena because it will ultimately sustain the District when convention business is low, or wavers due to economic changes. The Plaza remains the most successful mixed use di...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
To me the worst offenders are the facades along Grand..... Atleast along 14th street with all the retail windows your attention can be diverted to the groundlevel, but along Grand it's hard to ignore the buildings. Ultimately, we're building place holder structures that will be redeveloped over ti...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
one thing i'm not crazy about--and it's sprinkled about on various walls throughout the district--is the metal siding. i know it's modern, but...it looks cheap. just stay with brick. we like brick. I agree about the metal siding looking cheap. Briarcliff Village has better finishes than the dow...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
I sort of get that vibe but at the same time, a lot of this looks very similar to the buildings on 2nd street in the River Market. To me, it's like they were trying to reproduce 2nd Street in some places. I think maybe I'll do a photo comparison when I get some time unless everyone agrees with me t...

That's what we have the yellow-jackets for--to pick up litter. As far as the homeless go, have a doorman in one of the condo buildings set up with a special button that turns on the sprinkers when the need arises. Or a loudspeaker system where the doorman announces: "Homeles...
