Re: Streetcar Phase 3

I get your point but KC our modern streetcar is a light rail design. our system just has the design decision of not having dedicated row inside downtown and stopping often. the Siemen's 70 the city didn't get is classified as a light rail vehicle for what we did get, Houston is buying 39 CAF Urbos 7...

For the transit minded, 142 with 7 day service is a short walk away from all of them. they're all local small chains or single location places I've ate at all of them Smoking Guns BBQ- 12th and Swift http://www.smokingunsbbq.com/ Paul and Jack's Tavern- 18th and Swift http://www.paulandjacks.com/ Ch...

Re: Streetcar Phase 3

yes, but also this was also before the advent of expressway systems, expectations of reasonable commutes, and when the middle class would put up with a slow streetcar ride across a great distance to live beyond the coal smoke of the city, etc. in cities where rapid transit was not subsequently cons...

Re: Streetcar Phase 3

the original streetcar was a success because it went to really far away. one line went to a brand new development way out in the country which became Overland Park. similarly today, a train line to Second Creek would be hugely intelligent to do. Maybe it would be phase 4 or a commuter line but as a ...

doesn't discount downtown as a choice. there's two industrial areas they could locate in, one is downtown, the other touches it

Re: Streetcar Phase 3

A good idea. Another potential commuter connection someday too. The more of those the better.

I would like to see phase 3 planning cover North Oak to Barry, 47th, Broadway, the cross downtown line, Troost, into KCK and similar. Basically, expand in all directions, not just south and east

Re: Burns & McDonnell proposes $130 million office project o

Some might think another missed opportunity for downtown but they already have a large office near there. B&M is consistently in top 10 for job openings in KC, along with Cerner. And mostly higher income jobs. They just sunk a huge amount of money last year into remodeling the old Marion HQ. Th...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper

how does this garage + parallel venue idea accommodate the BBQ open? that event is so big they bus people in and use every inch of parking lot not saying it can't be done, just that a multi-thousand person event is not something the city can afford to jeopardize. it's no convention with hotel room u...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper

Why exactly does the AR want to demolish Kemper? Can they not host a rodeo or any other event in Kemper? Come on, the place has hosted almost anything and everything over the last 40 years! NBA, NHL, AFL, The Final Four, Concerts, The Circus, and yes...even the American Royal! In fact, it STILL hos...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

Just got an email from our HOA management company stating that Google Fiber reps were going to be present at our March HOA board meeting to answer questions about the service. Not sure I'll be going to that board meeting since they will probably only be answering questions about the cost and servic...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Looks like KC's new terminal idea is DOA. Too bad... I expect you're right initially. no matter how cost effective a new terminal would be this will be the end result. the initial $1.2 billion will become closer to $900 million and enough people will still whine then the cost of basic maintenance p...

Re: Broadway Jimmy John's

my favorite argument against putting it in the row is "it will ruin my view" I figured that a train at the low speed of 10mph and having a 100 foot wide lot, and accounting for that someone can look left and right into their neighbor's lots, without having a stop outside your window the tr...

Re: Broadway Jimmy John's

I'm intrigued to see how well a drive thru actually does in this corridor. Their peak hours are around meal times obviously. in the evening traffic is bad enough NB there's often manned traffic control in the 1100 block so that cars can get out of one garage. the morning can be just as bad inbound i...

We are living in an era where a subset of citizens simply don't want to pay for anything no matter how necessary it may be, or how beneficial it could be to them, the city, and society at large. They seem to think that all taxes can just be made to disappear and it won't affect them. luckily there'...

Re: KC Streetcar: Linwood or 31st?

I think there's really a super simple solution to this beyond it being a streetcar which street is better suited to putting a new grocery store on the line? because this basic service would be key to this area coming back. and I don't mean an Aldi's. that chain is fine, but I'm thinking a larger mor...
