Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Next? https://electrek.co/2018/09/04/sunra-electric-scooter-spreading/amp/ I've been looking into getting a motor scooter (Vespa, Buddy, etc...) for a little while now but hated that I couldn't find something electric. This is super interesting. If the price is cheap enough, I might try to import o...

Re: Politics

I think the problem is, when the right pushes illegal immigration/crime they are scapegoating because they know their base gets fired up at the thought of "bad brown people" https://www.businessinsider.com/undocumented-aliens-violent-crime-murder-statistics-data-2018-8 Gun violence and mass shooting...

Re: 34th Terrace & Main

Although 164939227 & Metcalf is pretty funny, I didn't mean anything offensive. I had seen her earlier post on the Plaza at main street about lots of homeless and now this post on an (IMHO) underutilized but what could be very important part of Main and was curious whether she was in this general a...

Re: "Tower East"

If churches served cocktails, more people would attend. Drop the god stuff and serve brunch and I’ll be there every Sunday morning. Perhaps that's what we can use abandoned churches for. Sunday brunch halls. That is... a really good idea. Make the pews into communal seating or something.

Re: 34th Terrace & Main

The worst part is the parking garage for this building. As a cis-gendered straightish white male of Danish ancestry, I would have felt much safer at night parking at the Burger King’s surface lot and walking over.

Re: 34th Terrace & Main

It's too late Darlene, I live right next to this "development" and I can't even use main anymore. It's just non-stop traffic jams. And they built it SO close to the street, I'm fearful that it will blot out the sun this winter and Main street will become just a huge sheet of ice. Won't anyone think ...

I really like the shawarma place but I just wish the food was a little more flavorful.

You don't plop a Home Depot SuperCenter on a lot next to 150-year-old Victorian buildings, and not get a lot of push-back.
Well, maybe if you're midtown you do

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Only thing I would change with the Armour bike lanes is to remove one parking space from each corner of the intersections. Since the parking is pushed out an extra 4-5 feet or so, it's really hard to see oncoming vehicles when driving or cycling. I suspect it's also really hard to see oncoming cycli...

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

Looks like a 10-story project. If they smartened up the exterior a bit from this rendering (a little more modern and urban please) I don't hate it. Is the parking garage under the building or adjacent? Hard to tell. For that prime lot, a 2-story parking garage is on par with as bad as a 4 story hot...

Re: Google Maps renames neighborhoods, residents fume

The "Midtown Westport" neighborhood in the Roanoke/Volker area seems a bit off. There is no Midtown designation anywhere. It looks like the area from Main to Gillham and 31st to Armour is lacking a name. That is an area I refer to as Midtown. You would be on the extreme small size for that definiti...

Re: Google Maps renames neighborhoods, residents fume

Ours is called broadway-Gillham which I believe is the older name for it, but I prefer it over being associated with the dumpster fire of our current neighborhood of old Hyde park.

Had a comfortable and safe feeling ride over lunch today. Only one person told me to "get the fuck out of the road". And, strangely, it was a person headed the opposite direction. What're you gonna do.

Think of the resources our city spends uphold racism on one had and help alleviate it's effects on the other. Think of what those resources could go to if we didn't have to do this. Look at the police budget, if I recall, it's a HUGE portion of the city budget. It's primary job is to police our eas...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

The thing is, The Plaza is/was so great because the developer had a clear vision. He really cared about well-to-do white people and how his development looks and functioned. He also had a ton of pride for his developments and for KC. FTFY Racism aside, he really was a great developer with a great v...
