This is already being discussed in a P&L thread about this block

Re: P&L District: 14th & Baltimore site proposal

Glad to see they'll screen indie films but corporate filmhouses screen only high profile pseudo indie films or those that have many copies available.  Would like to see another indie screen or two downtown that shows more obscure films.  Screenland in Xroads is one.  Another, perhaps in the Mark...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

I think you are still missing Toss and Staubio's point - I think they are saying use the excessive surface lots in the xroads (many Star owned) for new residential construction - not streetfront retail.  Residential can't be sold/leased fast enough down there right now and the more people - the less...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

Toss - you beat me to it.  Who in the hell is going to wander accross acres of desolate parking lot in the middle of the night to watch the presses work?  As to the comments implying that the Star is justified in expanding the lots and building a garage later because there is no one willing to devel...

Re: Westport Flea Market GONE?

What could be more natural than combining a trip to the Auto, Boat, or Sport Show at Bartle with hot wings served up by busty waitresses?

Plus I forgot to take into account all of the recent college grad loft dwellars - icing on the cake.

I better go find a Hooter's suggestion box.

Re: Westport Flea Market GONE?

Oh no, I wasn't talking about Westport - this location is a bit of a head scratcher to me too - maybe it will work.  I was sugesting that they should put one down in the central business district - like in the base of one of the office towers.  Somewhere in walking distance of Barney Allis - the mar...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

I'm pretty sure they did that on purpose.  They took the wind out of any potential outrage before it could get started. I guess it is easy to do that when you control the city's primary news outlet - It couldn't possibly be a coincidence that they waited to print this otherwise newsless article on...

Re: Westport Flea Market GONE?

this sounds somewhat more encouraging - I could be happy with Hooters coming to westport if it didn't mean the demise of the flea market.  I would eat at both.  I have always wondered why they never put a hooters down in the loop - I would think it would clean up with the convention goers, turists, ...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

KCOEK - were you a Star employee?  Do you have any insight into their parking needs and/or why they didn't just go ahead and build a nice prefab garage while they had the construction crew on sight?  I am rarely down their durring business hours as I work out in the burbs so I have no idea if all ...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

You original post cited "their weekly 'news' articles." Do you mean the internal company newsletter? If so, what do you expect? Every company toots its own horn in its company newsletter. Those publications are intended to be internal PR rather than journalism. No I am refering to articles on the p...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

So you are saying that what they say is not true? What part of it is not true? Call it what you want-I dont' see anything that isn't true in what they are saying. Nota - I never called it untrue - I called it self-promoting and bad journalism - big difference.  When a media outlet constantly presen...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

Honey, I've had a private tour of the whole new facility inside and out. I know which buildings are being torn down, etc. They are not "hundreds of acres." I saw nothing in the article or anything else they have printed that was "self promoting." This whole thread is  just another "blow it all out...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

Nota - have you been to the northern xroads lately?  Take a look around and count how many surface parking lots there are sprinkled everywhere that have little signs on them that say "KC Star employee parking" - they are everywhere- some of them huge.  If a company is going to hold itself out as a...

Re: St. Louis company to renovate three buildings into lofts

not to get too far off topic, but is there a reason why the large surface lots west of the Freighthouse and south of many of these buildings doesn't get turned into a large parking garage?  It seems like it would be pefectly located and suited to meet just about everyone's parking needs. I can thi...

His article left out an important item:

-local newspaper promises to construct fabulous new facitlity promoting downtown but then lets city down by paving over thriving neighborhood with surface parking lots.

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots

I guess the only potential brightside would be if the Star turns loose some of their further away lots for development (like the giant on the West side of Soho South).
