Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Standing on the northbound metro center platform and 803 just whizzed by without stopping. Not a huge deal, just wondering if anyone knows what's up?

Re: Saxon at the Midland (formerly Midland Office Building)

Or, you know, we could not artificially deflate rents with complex regulations that ultimately just make a few people rich and screw poor people while simultaneously ensuring that no landlord ever invests in renovations because why bother. That was the takeaway I had from the NPR piece on rent contr...

Re: Downtown has become Digital Nomad friendly

High end devices have been moving away from USB-A for years, although I guess most people with fancy phones and laptops probably don't take the bus much. And there are always adapters.

No idea what their names are, but the two folks who have been working both times I stopped in appear to be Chinese. The dude definitely takes your order in hanzi or something close enough I can't tell the difference.

Re: Town Pavilion food court

It was good enough I went back the next day and got something different. I've had the Longan beef and beef lo mein so far. They were both really good, although they were also both so similar I could hardly tell the difference, except that the Longan beef was not all mixed together and the broccoli h...

I agree, but I can't imagine they'll voluntarily change it so that they are forced to have a record that can be used against them.

Re: Town Pavilion food court

Apropos of nothing, I figured I'd revive this ancient dead thread for no good reason, just to announce that the funky little Chinese noodle place between Johnny C's and Mama Tio's is really good.

Thank you.

Re: BBQ - Texas vs KC Style

Not necessarily. I refer specifically to what people around here tend to prefer. Also, I suppose I should admit that my "Texas BBQ" experience has never included Lockhart nor anywhere not within San Antonio or Austin (Bolner's Market (RIP! Best Texas BBQ experience of my life.), Bill Miller / Rudy's...

I was joking, obviously. I have no idea. Maybe someone thought they needed a fancy garage for their fancy employees to park in, fancily.

Re: Jackson County Regional Rail Plan

I can answer that (Dave can probably fact check me, but I think I have the gist): every single time it had come up for a vote, excluding the "Insane Chastain" proposal which was basically promising to make unicorns real, it failed. Repeatedly. And usually by a wide margin. Rather than keep failing, ...

Re: BBQ - Texas vs KC Style

Is Texas BBQ better than KC BBQ? IMO, not really. But it is really good. And the pepper-forward, unsweet sauce they lean toward is infinitely better than the cloyingly sweet, diabetes-inducing garbage the folks around here tend to prefer. Is Franklin worth the wait? I'm not waiting in line for six h...

Re: Jackson County Regional Rail Plan

Have you ridden the thing? It hauls a little ass occasionally. I mean, yeah, it's a shame we don't have the money and/or political will to run trains everywhere and provide transit to anywhere anyone would want to go, but we don't, so... we get what we can get. I bitched about this for years until I...
