Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I'm too lazy to upload the image to illustrate, but this Futurama quote (thanks, Morbotron!) sums up a good number of the discussions here in general...and one of our prolific posters in particular.

Re: New Mizzou Endzone Project

Personal seat license payments for season tickets are no longer tax-deductible, but I don't know if other sorts of donations to athletic departments still are.

Given that the only one I heard about was this specific change, I suspect that everything else that previously was tax-deductible still is.

All units are being inspected by a lender today, so...I suspect that the building either has been, or shortly will be, sold.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I was there on Friday - rather hilariously, one of the things I bought there to bring home was a Missouri-bottled beer (from Side Project). Anyway...KC having a food hall actually open would be great. For all the talk about various places potentially being food halls, you'd think that somebody would...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

The side facing Truman is (going off memory) a montage of the Royals (2015 WS celebration), Chiefs (Len Dawson), and Sporting KC (Matt Besler). I haven't had a good look at the Grand-facing side to even notice what was on it.

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

They've had signs up on the railing for the past week or so that say "Under New Management / Extensively Remodeled", so I don't know if that's a step in getting consent, they got their liquor license back while appealing, or something else.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Go to page 7 of the slides - 31st is by far the highest-scoring intersection that doesn't have a stop proposed. (Also, 43rd and 45th are the lowest-scoring intersections with proposed stops.) A sizable number of the sticky notes for comments were about not having a stop at 31st. While I get that hav...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Pizzabella holds the honor of being the only restaurant I've walked out of after being seated. It was a slow weekday evening; the servers and the host were all talking to each other and completely forgot about our table, so...after 20 minutes, we left.

Con: such a nice building being put to use by a terrible organization.
Pro: assuming the move actually happens, I can't imagine that greeting the nice people offering personality tests on First Friday with a friendly "Hail Xenu!" will ever get old.

Re: Westport

I drove by yesterday and the parking lot in front of Foundry was being torn up - wondered if they were doing work on the Foundry. Seafood, huh? Sailor Jack's Snack Shack, to be precise - from reading between the lines of the article, I'm getting a strong "Char Bar, but with seafood" vibe for what t...

A friend was at the Foundry last night and was told that it will close after Saturday - the space will be remodeled and become a seafood restaurant.

Let us also never forget that it was Shields that championed the Westport development moratorium and it is Shields who thinks parking should be required to be bundled in rent. Both absolutely detrimental to affordable housing. She cares nothing about true affordability. She saw an opportunity to sh...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

wahoowa, I'm guessing you got the same email I did this morning. :-)

In that email, it was mentioned that Regulated Industries will require consent from all property owners within 500 feet as a condition of reinstatement - I'd assume it's at their discretion when dealing with suspended licenses.

The active campaigning phase (for mayor) has already begun - I got a postcard over the weekend promoting meet-and-greets with one of the Scotts, and Jolie just put up a fundraising event on her FB page.

While mentioned previously in the Crossroads thread, City Barrel announced their existence publicly today - focusing on hops and sours.

When they open, they'll be the *fifth* (edit, forgot about Brewery Emperial - *sixth*) brewery within a 4ish-block radius of 18th & Locust.

Re: Slovenia for 7 nights

I haven't been to either Slovenia or Croatia, but both are high up on my to-do list for future European adventures. Slovenia was effectively untouched by the 90s wars in the former Yugoslavia and has done a very good job at marketing itself as a lesser-visited alternative Alpine destination. A frien...
