Re: Sporting Kansas City

SKC is charging pro-sports-in-the-USA ticket prices, selling out games, and charging pro-sports-in-the-USA prices for snacks, beer, and merch. The TV contracts suck... MLS will have a better TV contract starting next year. This year, between ESPN, NBCSN, and the Spanish-language networks, MLS takes...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

leisure trips apparently make up a huge percentage at 75% of domestic air travel. that would explain why there's so many multi-part flights from KC http://www.ustravel.org/sites/default/files/page/2010/12/Public_Forecast_Summary.pdf I suspect that as a % of domestic air revenue, it's reversed in fa...

For what it's worth, Jeremy Danner mentioned on another forum that you can email him with (Taps and Tastes/otherwise beer-related, presumably) Boulevardia feedback.

Re: Overseas Travel

I just got back from a two-week trip to the Czech Republic (Prague), England (various points in the south and west), and France (Normandy). A few random notes from the trip: I'm 5'5", so I don't have much in the way of issues with economy seat size. I'll second the preference for using non-U.S. carr...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Baltimore site proposal

How hard would it be to sign a Gap type store? A nice general clothing store would be a nice amenity to add. I've always been under the impression that to sign one you have to sign several. No mall-esque retailer wants to be the only store down here (though Jos. A. Bank doesn't seem to mind, but it...

Some more empty space is being filled. This is the space on the southwest corner of 13th & Main. (Technically, this is the 13th & Baltimore block) Tenant finish permit for the space at 1300 Main just came through today. Yard House Restaurant is the tenant. Re: Statewide transportation sales tax coming in 2014

One thing they need to do is figure out what roads they can take off the state system and turn over to the city or county for maintenance. Missouri 9 is a good example of a state highway that no longer needs to be one inside NKC. MO 45 is another inside KC. MO 152 should be decommissioned east of I...

Speaking of maps, this is a reminder to myself to update the existing MAX Wikipedia article to use its standard transit map infoboxes and route information formatting (this is a good example of what it could look like).

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

Some coworkers of mine wrote a script to parse the Google Fiber signup page and get detailed information on the actual numbers required for each fiberhood to qualify. This script just spits out the fiberhood-level numbers, so I calculated the higher-level stats. The numbers below are as of this morn...

MLS and US Soccer announce an 8-year deal with ESPN, Fox Sports, and Univision

A Friday night MLS game of the week will be on Univision and two Sunday afternoon/evening games on ESPN and Fox Sports 1. I suspect we'll see a number of Friday and Sunday games for SKC starting next year... :-)

Re: 1 Thing that is happening (aka Rock and Brews to OP)

KISS is literally the worst band that isn't called Blue Cheer that I can think of, and they've turned that dog into cash for decades. Hell, in spite of my utter disdain for their musicianship and embarrassment at their lyrics full of over-the-top sexism and juvenile sexuality in general, I still li...

The DT location is lipstick on a hog, IMO. Its a convenience store for tourists & DT people. OK, I'll bite...what exactly do you not like about the downtown Cosentino's, and what would you propose they do differently? It's overpriced compared to suburban hypermarkets and Aldi's? (yes) It wastes a t...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The New York Times posted an article a couple days ago that allows you to see baseball team fandom (via Facebook likes) on a county- and ZIP-code-level basis, with small segments on the boundaries separating teams.

Naturally, the Royals-Cardinals one is the Denkinger Line.

I've never had a bagel (either of the two times I've been) in NYC myself, but fortunately, Slate put up an article this morning telling you how to not do it wrong if you make them yourself.

First Watch in Northtown demolished

I drove through Northtown over lunch and noticed that the building that First Watch (and a beauty salon, apparently, per Google Maps) was in has been completely demolished and the site's been cleared; all of this must have done within the past month or two. Does anyone know what's going in at that s...
