Re: Corvino

We went to Corvino Saturday night to try the late-night burger (and it lived up to the hype - A++ would eat again) and a coctail; we'll be back to work through more of their menu soon. The Star has an article about them getting a AAA Four Diamond Award ; Bluestem is the only other restaurant in KC t...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

So, hypothetically speaking...if any of us wanted to run for the highly-coveted office of TDD director and somehow got elected, any idea of how much of a time commitment that would end up being?

Also, woo Saturday voting.

While no work appears to have begun inside yet, there's a banner up inside the old Plowboys space for Johnny C's Deli.

This is great - and it's also nice that you get a day pass with the download.

Re: Brewpubs

I'm not sure that the "brewpub" genre is as desirable as it once was - there are too many places that serve both solid food and local/interesting beer (from other specialty breweries). The craft beer scene has definitely moved away from brewpubs in favor of taprooms - virtually every new ...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Does anyone have more information on what's going into 2100 Grand? I tried my hand at the permit-sleuthing game and didn't get much beyond that it appears post-renovation it will be commercial.

Re: T minus 10 years (Solar Eclipse of 2017) - Totality in KC!

My son has been looking forward to this event for years. He plans to find the places with the best weather conditions and simply go to wherever they may be, no matter what state. He told me that all ideal spots will be thoroughly crowded. Traffic may be a problem. I'm just hoping it doesn't rain he...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Yep, that was brought up as well - while Southwest won't explicitly confirm it, they've strongly and repeatedly hinted that they'd add more flights if a new terminal was built, and as SW is beefing up its international network, it's likely that KC would have regular service to Mexico. The new termin...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I went to the Downtown Neighborhood Association-hosted airport listening tour on Tuesday - while nothing new was discussed that hasn't been mentioned over the past few years, there were some interesting tidbits: - Both the city and the airlines went into this process initially believing that a major...

Julian will close in July

Given that it seems like Celina is invariably at the Belfry every time I've been in there (and that the Belfry's move across Grand fell apart), this doesn't strike me as terribly surprising.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I still can't believe that nobody in the local press has reported on DeJanes's squatting in KCATA's right of way, nor that the pro-streetcar side are failing to make it known that their most noisome opponent is literally leading a political campaign to protect her commandeering of public property f...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

That's a bigger point that I don't think has been made blatantly enough: Anyone living in the current TDD would be a fool/incredibly spiteful to not request a ballot (and then vote yes) for the expanded TDD.

As far as I can tell, it's not big box stores in general (my Northland-residing coworkers are lusting over Costco opening next month), but alas, Walmart brings in the poors, so it's unwanted.

I had always assumed that the Downtowners were a business-only group, to be honest.

Anyway, based on your description, I can guarantee you that the Downtown Neighborhood Association is *way* less pretentious. :-)

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

The only reason that makes any sense is to turn it into a pedestrian plaza, but I doubt that would require vacating the street to do.

Vacating the street would make it much easier to create a permanent KC Live-style setup where you can have open containers, maybe?
