Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between

Wow. A big jump into the residential sector for CC. They were early pioneers of urban living in KC but they've done nothing since then. Just office. I would expect anything they develop to carry a pretty big price tag. It would actually be a great place to live. I have at times envied the residents ...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

Our meal was amazing, though... So, they ripped out the restaurant space (which was kind of weird anyway) and essentially put all the restaurant seating in the existing bar space? If I am interpreting the cryptic comments here correctly, that cannot be many tables. But at least the bar space preser...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

I’d go with a No considering no others were built in its design and it was considered functionally out of date within 30 days of opening. I’d very much disagree, for its intended “drive to your gate” design it absolutely delivered on that promise, even following the addition of the secure areas, an...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

Happy KC is getting a modern airport that suits today's aviation needs. Very sorry to see a genius design retired and torn down. Was it the best in its time? I’d go with a No considering no others were built in its design and it was considered functionally out of date within 30 days of opening. I’d...

Re: Powell Gardens 2019

Looks like a great place. I've never actually been. It's too bad it's so far out of town. With the expanse of Swope Park, it's too bad something like this doesn't exist there. So much underutilized space in a great setting so close to the city.

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

At first I was totally against this expansion, as I believed it would be better long-term for connectivity to NKC if the long term goal is North Oak > KCI light rail. However, cost of crossing HoA bridge is a difficult hurdle. However, the streetcar expansion to the Riverfront gets more and more co...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

I'm indifferent on whether this fails because if the developer has tenant interest they could always find a surface lot to build same project. Would rather see surface lot developed given there is already something functional in this spot. Let Cordish build their residential tower here. The KC deve...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

This looks like it's going to turn out pretty ugly. Looks like an apartment building in Olathe. https://i.imgur.com/h1gOmmu.jpg What corner is this on? Might have been tolerable for a mid block location but the giant windowless wall looks terrible on the corner. The whole thing just looks cheap.

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between

Milano is closing. The restaurant was formerly the "Crystal Pavilion," home to endless prom dates in the 1980s. It was not part of the original Crown Center build-out but appeared a few years later in 1982. The staff from Milano are moving to "One East" as in 1 E. Pershing Road, the new name for th...

USDA: Many decline move to KC. https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2019/07/17/742519999/future-of-key-farming-research-uncertain-as-2-3-of-usda-staff-say-they-wont-move Sounds like they'll end up in temp office space or existing USDA space over by Swope Park until a new site is selected. So might ...

Re: Urban Living Pet Peeves

Do not move to my building. Most condos and apartments aren't designed for that kind of noise isolation. That pretty much settles it for me. I've flirted with buying a condo in KC but my wife is a professional pianist and earns her living as such. I am more of a hack but still enjoy playing guitar ...

Re: BBQ - Texas vs KC Style

Is Texas BBQ better than KC BBQ? IMO, not really. But it is really good. And the pepper-forward, unsweet sauce they lean toward is infinitely better than the cloyingly sweet, diabetes-inducing garbage the folks around here tend to prefer. Is Franklin worth the wait? I'm not waiting in line for six ...

So just curious, how problematic is it to live in a condo when both you and your spouse own and play several musical instruments? One of those instruments is an electric guitar and I do like to crank up the volume from time to time. Are most condo's going to be sound proof enough for this activity o...

2019 US Cities Scorecard For Millennials https://thelangstonco.com/cities-scorecard Why wouldnt KC be on this list. Sunbelt cities dominate the list. Houston is #1 overall. Texas cities did well due to low cost of living and low income tax (no income tax in their case - but they make up for it with...

https://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article231986842.html On a somewhat different theme, regarding the USDA move to KC, I suspect the federal union is guilty of a little hyperbole in this case. I once worked in the Denver office of a company that closed that office and consolidated i...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

While they do make it sound like this is definitely going to happen, they don't make it clear as to when. Sometimes I wonder if the streetcar line has been too successful. I'd love to see this built south of Sprint Arena on Grand to fill in some of KC's most high profile surface lots but the streetc...
