Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
There’s not enough acreage in the Africa plains area for the African elephants. The AZA has habitat standards that have to be met by members to house African elephants. There is a planned tram stop under construction with the exhibit if the plans announced and information I’ve seen as a member of Fr...

Re: Interesting new ad campaign from KU
Another like here--The KC area has more KU fans by far than that other school, and the entire area has historically been oriented towards the west.

Re: Koch Brothers behind effort to break unions in Wisconsin
All I can add to this discussion is that if you value your yearly vacations, health plans and weekends please thank unions for standing up, and in some cases in our history, shedding their blood for workers to enjoy more in life than unsafe, overworked lives. Bargaining rights are just that, bargain...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
The signals at Meyer Blvd and Swope Pkwy were dismantled quite a few years ago--probably due to lack of traffic count. I'd like to see the intersection re-signaled with the increased traffic that now enters the park. Greater signage like the entry gates next to Starlight that you pass through on the...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Great news!!! Now if only the remaining two Missouri counties that had valid petitions for a vote (Platte and Cass counties) can hold a vote. The next legislative priority should be to orchestrate a vote on the Kansas side to truly make this a metro-wide resource for an economic generator that can b...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
I remember reading in The Star that FOTZ did approach both counties with similar proposals to help fund the special election. If not offered up front, they would certainly have been willing to discuss with the county officials. I also remember reading in The Pitch that at least one of the county com...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Obviously the Neanderthals that approve elections in Platte and Cass counties want to kill the penguins!! Perhaps they'd like to open their own zoos featuring the most common birds in their counties--pigeons! Petitions were signed and validated that mandate elections in both counties--let the people...

Re: The Star: Pull Union Station out of mediocrity
I'd like to see what the $20m gets us at Corinthian Hall first, even though US is much more accessible for most people. If Corinthian Hall could be KC history oriented and the natural history component positioned at US, it would be two separate draws for two different types of museum goers. KC histo...

I agree with you Fang, you generally get what you pay for, whether it be material items or work quality.

Not the only academic center in KC. Truman/UMKC has an academic program that includes rotations with St. Luke's. As a KU grad I take pride in the development of the KU Med complex and academic program, but still need to give props to the UMKC program--the only 6 year residency program in the area ...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Guess I'm a "glass half-full" person. I'm all for anything that brings more customers to the zoo. It results in greater revenues and potential for more growth, hopefully along the lines of their 20 year plan that I saw this winter.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Should have clarified. It doesn't go over either the rhinos or the hippos, just the open savannah area with giraffes, zebras, ostriches, all of which could inflict some damage if you survive the fall. That being said, I'm sure the legal team for the zoo will have all in order to keep liability to ...

The lift only goes over herbivores. Sorry, no free entertainment other than watching people that have never been on a lift. Was at the zoo this weekend (Sunday) and it was crowded--about 9,000 plus.

Re: KCI Passenger Use Soars
Anyone know anything about Delta ramping up their schedule from KCI? Did I miss an announcement? I was on the FlyKCI site tonight and when checking the non-stop destinations page, found that there were quite a few cities on the list that had Delta starting new service June 6th.

Re: UMB HQ Landscaping
The original plan was for a terraced 14 story tower that followed the "U" shaped interior space of the building. Too bad it wasn't built--that would have somewhat helped to make up for destroying the Emery, Bird, Thayer department store building--a real jewel!!!

Re: Johnson County Transit (The JO)
I don't use the JO due to my job entailing traveling to more than a single office, but I do see JO riders waiting out in the weather for the buses. It would seem to be a smart business move to provide shelters at larger JO stops for those riders.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
I attended an open house last week for Friends of the Zoo, etc. guests to preview the concepts. The idea has a lot of merit as it clusters food, shops, activities etc. around key displays like the polar bear exhibit. I'm not too keen on closing the side loop to the gorillas as I still like the swi...
