Re: OFFICIAL - Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore
That view will change when (&if) Three & Four light are built. Should be an impressive towering view from the freeway below unless the much needed cap is built over the south loop. Loews and the KC Star buildings will be the south side towers from that view with the possibility of others along the s...

Re: COVID19
It doesn’t matter what a patient’s co-morbidities are, they still died of Covid-19. If they have terminal cancer and die in a car wreck they died because of a car wreck. Your logic is of the same demeanor as the politicians saying we should go about our regular activities because “only the old and h...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee
I would guess lots of asbestos considering the construction date of the building. Would like to see it repurposed with additional construction on the south end of the block.

Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)
I agree with the need to “funk it up” for the Crossroads. Withholding final judgement until the product is finished. This infill is in a critical location along the streetcar route so just really grateful to see it going up. Hoping we can continue this type of infill once our current health & econom...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Are these the same companies that built Phase 1? Hope so as it seems they did a good job considering the complexities of building on occupied streetscapes.

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
I agree with both the boring assessment and the lack of an iconic replacement fountain. This is the front yard of KC for many meeting attendees (when and if we have meetings again) and could be so much more than what is portrayed. I’m hoping the depiction lacks more detail than what is shown. If we ...

Re: COVID19
If you allow the general public to continue to gather in restaurants, bars, etc. then how do you protect the at-risk people that they will come into contact with? My spouse is a transplant patient (5 years!) and I cannot take the risk. Also anyone over 60. Our company has instructed all to stay home...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Ideally those spaces will be filled in at some point but again it’s a question of monetary resources. Food options & sites do need to be expanded/reopened for both convenience and to generate more revenue. I do know that staffing is sometimes a problem since many positions are seasonal and need to c...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
That would be nice but there may be several issues: Can the train use the bridge going over to Africa? If not, could get very expensive for a new bridge over the Blue River & train tracks below The tram is larger & provides more space for strollers, etc. Train would have to be larger & more disabled...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
As mentioned in an earlier post, aquarium planned for Valley. Used to be a train stop near Tropics and Beaks & Feet—should be reinstated, especially if aquarium does happen. Not sure about need for a tram stop near the train maintenance building with a stop already underway at the revamped elephant ...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
From stroller to their teens my kids never had a problem getting around the zoo. Recently the zoo has been upgrading the walkways to better serve those with disabilities and partnered with Variety Club to create the new disability friendly playground in a former underutilized area between the hippos...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
I’m with you! Our zoo is rather unique in its layout, but it’s great exercise and you can visit either a specific geography or take on the entire layout. Get a FOTZ yearly pass and use it as much as you want for exercise with the added bonus of seeing animals you’ll probably never see in the wild. I...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
The area between the Australia/Asia area and the Red Barn/playground used to be the Great Ape House. It was demolished a while back even though there was a desire to re-purpose it for historical reasons- a very iconic building. I’ve heard the building had big problems with asbestos and major foundat...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
That’s the Valley area I referred to. It was built during the depression and includes the old bear pits among other enclosures. That area that has been proposed for the new aquarium, which would link the Beaks & Feet area with the revamped elephant exhibit. I really like the idea of linking more are...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Guess it depends on what you want in the experience. We enjoy the space given for the animals and actually having to search for them in a naturalistic setting vs. exhibits crammed together like a shopping mall. I also don’t go to the zoo for the meal experience, though it is necessary to eat and sit...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
There are shaded picnic areas throughout the zoo as well as plenty of shaded indoor or outdoor areas at each of the food facilities (Tuxedo Grill, Australia and several in Africa starting at the main African entry plaza). The diagram of the new elephant viewing area shows several shaded seating opti...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
That’s what it was, ignoring the valid petition. Doesn’t seem right to not at least let the voters decide, if a valid petition was presented.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Most every zoo I’ve been to, including in Europe have either African or Asian elephants. Both would be cool, though major expense. The zoo tax currently collects only from Jackson and Clay counties, even though I think both Platte and Cass also voted for the tax. Their governing bodies opted to not ...
