Re: Asian Tourists...

KC has Sister City relations with Kurashiki, Japan, a city in Taiwan and Xi'an, China - could be the reason for the tour groups.  The Chinese and Japanese exchanges are quite active - the terra cotta soldier statues on the Plaza and dragon boat races, etc.  And last year Japan sold old two airplanes...

Re: OKC: Devon Tower, new tallest announced today

In the photo of the Dr Pepper watertower there is a large area in the background undergoing what appears to be groundwork for development - what is that going to be?

Re: Macaluso's on 39th

I live a block away from Macaluso's/Scotty's and walk or drive by daily.  As Scotty's, this place was never busy...EVER.  You knew something was wrong when they placed a banner over the entry saying that if you brought in a date you could get a Buy 1, Get 1 deal. No reason someone with a decent busi...

Re: Cordish projects in other cities

Too bad that a major HQ won't be part of BV and even sadder that this issue delayed the possibility of opening in time for the All-Star game. Anyone have a guess on who was more to blame - Cordish or Centene?

Re: 2007 Metropolitan Area census data is out

The data I initially posted on here was for the combined statistical area, rather than Metro/Micropolitain area. This set leaves out areas like Miami, San Antonio and Portland. But it does merge areas like Riverside/Ontario CA into LA metro population and San Jose into San Francisco population.  And...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Ah - thanks, Missionite...I tried like crazy to find something in the forum that talked about those condos. After I saw the design drawing you posted I realized that was it.  Had no idea that a pedestrian bridge would connect the Gateway to the southern neighborhoods, though.

2007 Metropolitan Area census data is out

Census data out today for 2006-07. Info below is for Metro/Micropolitan area (i.e. KC metro includes Warrensburg). KC is still steady and looks like the area added over twice as many people as St Louis. Sorry - couldn't get the columns laid out correctly on here.  From census.gov: Metro/Micro Area 2...

Re: Sonics on their way out of Seattle?

A portion of an article on cnnsi.com today: The task is to convince the league to move a franchise from a large city and television market to one of the smallest. The NBA's relocation committee will recommend to league owners whether to approve the Sonics' move at the April 17-18 meeting. "A lot of ...

I can't stop drooling every time I read posts for Chefburger and can't wait to go...just haven't had the time, yet.  I get Rob's burgers at 1924 Main for lunch sometimes and also love the fried green beans that have become standard aps for dinner there. Anyway, for better or worse I see a lot of peo...

Re: OFFICIAL: West Edge development

Was just down by there a few days ago...the north building is 7 stories and you can see the exterior finish going up on the west (Belleview) side.  An elevator/lift has been added to the outside of the NE corner. The exterior finish is very interesting - the windows of the finish don't match the flo...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

Driving on SM Pkwy last night I noticed a sign for condo (or townhome?) development directly south of Gateway project adjacent to the small bank.  Aside from being close to the propsed Gateway, seemed like a strange parcel to build on.  Was too dark to read much on the sign - anyone have add'l info ...

I'm still confused where this is - drove by last night and Empire Room is 346 E 31st.  The want ad says applications accepted at 400 E 31st, which would be Velvet Dog...although they may just be where they do interviews for the new place.  Anyone have updated location info?

Re: Spitzer + Prostitute = OMG

Larry Craig's political party was mentioned because the national GOP frowns upon high profile members (i.e. congressmen) being gay.  The party was mentioned because many people think that, as a Republican, he should adhere to the party's viewpoint of gays (anti-marriage, etc) but not live a closeted...

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?

You'd think that with the Mission Cliffs development finishing and the conversion of Rainbow Towers into the Vista condos there would be an influx of people who will have more of a stake in the area.  In other words, home buyers versus student renters.  Hopefully that will mean some increased pedest...

Re: Best Lofts In 350-450 Range Downtown?

If you can hold on until Spring, wait for the Urban Living loft tour - you can spend the day checking out everything at once.  In your price range, Freighthouse Flats (not to be confused w/Freighthouse Lofts) was f-ing incredible, but no pool.  It's only 2 levels, great balconies, very spacious and ...

Re: Sonics on their way out of Seattle?

So voters in OKC yesterday approved the extension of a sales tax to provide around $120MM to upgrade Ford Arena (~$100MM) and build an NBA practice facility (~$20).  The practice facility is contingent upon the city getting an NBA in the next few years. In looking through the Oklahoman online just n...

I like the architecture of it, too - I like the whole development, actually, although I wish it had gone more with the original designs that made it more italian.  Also think it's great for the surrounding neighborhoods. Nell Hill's has some nice things for the home with price points across the boar...

Re: The Future of Crown Center

I've often wondered why Crown Center didn't build more housing and offer incentives to it's employees. They, in turn, would frequent the restaurants and businesses around the area. Also, I was under the impression that Hallmark sold some of the land between the fitness center and the Founders develo...
