Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)

The effect of a Dollar General store in a retail option rich area containing an educated, reasonably affluent, mobile customer base (like the Crossroads) would be quite different from the effect in an isolated small town or low income area with a low car ownership rate.

Well of course it collapsed. They took out 5 adjacent columns on a corner.

A decent swath of the Northland is surprisingly high. Barry/I29 area, I guess. I wonder what NKC would look like.

Thanks. Good to know. If possible, though, a stationary link would be helpful.

The Loew's deal said no city incentives for any hotel over 300 rooms for 10 years, IIRC.

It seems they are often speedy as long as no KC developer is involved.

NextKansas.City

I haven't spent much time at this site and it doesn't seem to get much activity. For any who haven't visited, it has a nice map and a sortable, filterable database, both of which seem to be quite up to date and complete. Based upon posts, the site receives much less attention than I think it deserve...

I think that it's just that some of us are not convinced that the complainers know more about the process, resources and limitations than the people who actually did the work and invested the money.

I thought the city was seeking proposals for residential on the lots at that corner.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Good question. What's an example of a convention hotel in an urban setting, built in the age of ubiquitous car ownership and semi delivery of paraphernalia, that gets it right?

Love CitySceneKC. Have read it pretty much since it started. Subscribed as soon as it was required to continue reading and happy to pay the six bucks a month. Not real happy, however, that there hasn't been a new article since Christmas Eve Day, almost a week now. Everyone needs a vacation, but arti...

Well said. Question to someone better versed in the history and status of planning than I am: what is the origin of the blight:incentives connection? How widespread is it? Is it in use pretty much everyplace? Can the city provide incentives without a blight designation?

Of course, I don't know the exact path he sees for his career. What I was trying to say is that I think his personal vision is not for Kansas City, it's for his own future. Sly was a gem in this regard. He had a successful career behind him, and seemed focused on doing what he thought was best for K...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

Did anyone read my post in "Next Mayor 2019"? Q isn't working for the city. He is currently on a power trip as evidenced by his antagonism toward the Port Authority. He has one goal: his election to congress. If he has his way, you won't see him run for a second term as mayor. That would be a blessi...
