Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Could be nice to do something along the lines of a fake facade so it better blends into the neighborhood:

If that’s not in the budget, a wall with murals would be an improvement over a plain power sub station.

Re: N-S Bike Path in Urban Core

I think this was normalthing’s idea, but I’d love if PVP and Liberty Memorial and its grounds were consolidated into a unified, National Parks Service-run grand park. Interesting idea. Does anyone have any idea how much the IRS facility is utilized? It’d imagine the volume of paper filings they rec...

Re: N-S Bike Path in Urban Core

I had a pipe dream once of bridging greenspace over Broadway through PVP to connect the park into one even bigger park. The amount of wasted space that Broadway and its I-35 tentacles take away from the park is criminal. It’s like a microcosm of Missouri: endless pothole-filled roads for days. It w...

Re: N-S Bike Path in Urban Core

Agree Southwest Trafficway would be a great candidate for a north to south path. This would obviously have to be part of a major reworking of that street with traffic calming. I’d envision a grade separated two-way mixed use path/trail along the east side of Southwest Trafficway. Some sort of hybrid...

EV charging in condo garages

What’s the current charging situation in downtown/midtown/plaza parking garages?

Does anyone have experience getting their HOA to let them install a port in their lot/garage?

Does anyone use public charging as their sole charging solution? Are there that many public spots yet?

Re: UMKC: Oak Street West Development

UMKC has a real opportunity to transform itself with this project from a suburban quasi commuter school to a regionally competitive urban university with on campus student housing that’s connected to the urban fabric with the streetcar expansion. They could build 1000s of student housing units on th...

Re: Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

A 10 floor parking garage is insanity. If you're going to build that much parking, at least bury half of it. Then a person only has to circle around at most 5 floors, which is still crazy but better than 10 floors. Could you imagine if you had circle up and down 10 levels of parking every day (or mu...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

There were four Saturdays in Sept 2019, but five in 2017 and 2018. Saturdays have highest ridership. That explains the drop. To the person who produces that Streetcar stats graph, here is some friendly feedback. The comparisons graph is always missing data for later months for the prior years. It’s ...

Re: "RideKC Next" transit system redesign

What’s the status of Jarrett Walker’s company’s redesign of the bus network? Free bus service is noble. But a free bus ride is pretty worthless if it takes most people 1hr+ each way to get where they need to go. The network desperately needs a redesign and increased frequency in high traffic routes ...

The Council should strongly consider banning any further curb cuts on Main St. from River Market to 51st. If they truly want the core to be more pedestrian friendly, push curb cuts to numbered streets or alley ways. In Manhattan (walkers paradise), the Avenues and Broadway are the main retail corri...

Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

Jackson County is right to do its best to match assessed values to market values. It makes the system more equitable and transparent. Property taxes by their nature are progressive. The more your property is worth, the more tax you pay. If you don't like that, don't be a property owner or buy a less...

I could see a building with that kind of cladding fitting in well in KC. Very beautiful

Only problem is the $20M to $60M KC condo market is a bit soft. :)

Re: Midtown Area Apartment Boom

Agree 100% Midtown Marketplace should be considered for TOD. For phase 1, scrap the suburban pads on the perimeter and some of the parking lots with maybe med to high rise residential over retail on Main and/or townhouses on Linwood. Leave the Costco and Home Depot for now. In 10 to 15 years, redeve...

Why the hate for a successful locally grown company? The fashion industry in the US doesn’t really exist outside of New York and Los Angeles. Moving there to further grow and attract talent seems like a smart business move.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

There is an important distinction between mixed use buildings and mixed use development. The collective prorperties that make up the Country Club Plaza have a mix of uses, office, residential, and retail. However, most of the buildings are single use. The gold standard mixed use urban building has r...
