Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I suppose it's possible the Plaza gets dumped for less than what Taubman paid? Would a local outfit be interested? Copaken?

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The sheer number of opportunities to kill one teeny tiny little rail transit project is amazing. Yeah. Probably a dozen contracts and resolutions the Council has already approved, on top of the THREE public votes for the TDD, and the nail-biting wait for the federal grant. It's amazing these things...

Re: OFFICIAL - Reverb (1800 Walnut)

Easy. Just allow public access to an elevator that only goes to the top floor. It’s done in some hotels, where key card access is required for all floors that are just for guests.

Better email the Mayor and Council ASAP that you want them to approve this ordinance and keep the Main Street extension moving: http://cityclerk.kcmo.org/liveweb/Documents/Document.aspx?q=oagLJHzJmeVo81cjtWPO862hZICvWOA0aLMvD2%2bkwPbw3iMvIjEuhm0%2b1njnFJWC Contact info: https://www.kcmo.gov/city-hal...

How was Bristol Carryout, I was worried about fish getting cold. Do they wrap in foil? I wanted to do this one weekend
It was decent. Can't say that I'd pick them again as long as Affare and Blvd Tavern are open.

COVID & Carryout

Which restaurants are handling carry out the best? We've eaten a lot from Mildred's (closed last week), Affare, Blvd Tavern, Tannin (now only cheese and wine), Pierpont's, and Bristol. Will probably order Ragazza tonight. Mildred's was very prepared before they halted service (full menu), having lau...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I find it interesting that the TDD is expected to raise about $360 million in the next 20 years for the capital project. Over half of these funds will go to debt service. I wish we had the foresight to institute a MAPS 3 type fundraising campaign to "pre-pay" for these types of projects. It's a cul...

Re: Thinking outside the box on transit financing

The local match (now preferred to be over 50%) would need to be much lower for us to build major capital projects like streetcar or MAX. ARRA was 100% federal, so that would have to be retained because local governments won’t have any money to throw in. If the proposal is essentially a bigger, infr...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

It’s a horribly rendered video. I suspect the final product would be better than what’s shown. That said, there does seem to be a dearth of amenities for such a Central Park. There will likely be a nonprofit that will raise funds to add amenities and program the space. I wouldn't get too hung up on...

Anecdotally, I use Zipcar less because of Uber/Lyft, the improved retail environment downtown, and having access to a shared vehicle at work.

I'm optimistic that a new governance structure will raise enough money to install better amenities and introduce programming to keep the park active.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Are these the same companies that built Phase 1? Hope so as it seems they did a good job considering the complexities of building on occupied streetscapes. Yes. KC Streetcar Constructors was/is a joint venture between Stacy & Witbeck and Herzog Contracting (which itself is a separate arm from Herzo...

Re: Zipcar

Zipcar was down to two cars before COVID-19. I would not expect them to survive in most markets (especially KC).

Enterprise closed down their car share at UMKC (as they did nationwide).
