Re: Best Places to Go Sledding?

Kansas City Museum - Gladstone Blvd & Cliff Drive. Relatively steep and fast too. Most times there's a fire barrel there to keep warm - haven't checked that today however. Bottom of hill was landscaped a few years back by Parks Dept for improved drainage to Cliff Drive so you can't sled from the...

Re: Who's got a motorcycle?

Rode up to Excelsior Springs to Ventana Grill, featured recently on KCPT's "Check Please". Nice ride despite the breeze. COuple of great sammiches, couple of beers and we're out the door for under $30 bucks. Piano player was great, old standards and newer stuff too. My advice: grab a couch...

Re: Should Rockfest be banned from Penn Valley Park?

Move em to Berkeley Riverfront Park? I'm likin that idea. The concentration of residential units is at least 1/2 to 3/4 mile away, could allow for fireworks at the end of show, shto from across the river too. Added bonus - be able to sit in Resirvior Park or on the terrace west of the museum and hea...

Re: Should Rockfest be banned from Penn Valley Park?

Absolutely not. Nice interview with someone in charge at the Liberty Memorial WW I Museum who put it in to perspective. "It's grass, it'll grow back". Park renters pay some pretty hefty fees to Parks & Rec to secure the park and sign a contract and a liability clause that pretty much s...

Re: 2010 Polski Day celebration on Strawberry Hill

I checked it out a few years back when the Catholic CHurch had their deal  - complete w/ Polish Mass said Saturday afternoon, and Frank's Place (the bar) had a parade and a big party earlier in the day. Frank's Place definitely rocked - the food was good, mostly grilled kialbasa with pieroghi and $2...

Re: My New House, Restoration and such

Just a thought... What if - instead of a lean-to style of roof/carport, you did the garage with a parking pad off to the side with the decorative brick or textured concrete. The build a pergola style cover over it w/ decorative ends. (or not) You could use some type of roofing material that allows l...

Re: 1954 Demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel

True! I do some comparitive analysis on the hand painted cards, vs. the RPPC's (Real Photo Post Card) image. You can, at least w/ Elite, Southwest News and Hall Bros, tell that their image or rendering came from an RPPC taken by whoever was taking postcard photographs on any given day. One of the mo...

Re: 1954 Demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel

Well you saved me a trip to the library! In most all of the postcards I have of Convention Hall, it shows streets on both sides - even the RPPC's - which is what led me to believe it took up the entire block. There's even a source that shows it on the site of the present day Crown Plaza, hence my sk...

It was always my understanding the Robt. E. Lee was where the Crown Plaza is now. Convention Hall took up the entire block where Barney Allis Plaza is now. So now, I'm lookin around and goin Hmm. Re: 1954 Demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel

Too bad Simonsen ( and Fang) is dead wrong on location. For the record, there were four Robert E. Lee Hotels. One in St. Louis, San Antonio TX, Laredo TX and Kansas City. The Robert E. Lee WAS NOT where the underground parking garage is. Period, paragraph, done. The underground parking garage was th...
