Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

Thanks for sharing, pash. You've helped me think about this subject in a whole new way. But I tend to agree with AKP about educated black people in KC. While KC may not be teeming with black college grads, especially stereotypical young professionals, it's been my experience that there are plenty he...

Lane4 may redevelop Red Bridge Shopping Center

"Lane4's tenant plan is to remodel the 143,171-square-foot, grocery-anchored shopping center to give it an elegant but relaxed look that reflects the character of the area it serves. In addition, lighting would be enhanced to make the center more attractive in the evenings.".... ...."...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

^Interesting. I wonder if the difference in racial mixing is simply the difference between the South and Midwest. Even in Hope, Arkansas, the small town Bill Clinton is from, the local restaurant I ate at, Sheba's, was very mixed, and naturally and casually so.

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken

I'd like to clarify that Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is a sit-down restaurant, not fast food like Bojangles' and Popeye's. With that said, in my opinion, Stroud's is a joke compared to Gus's. I'm not actually impressed with Stroud's at all really, except for their cinnamon rolls. With Gus's, Ka...

Re: Downtown KCK

The only things dt kck can attract is wyco government, courts, and public housing. When I was a child it was the #3 shopping district in the metro. When Debbie Barnes of OP became Miss America in 1965 her triumphal parade was not held in JoCo but Minnesota Ave. Well, more recently it's attracted a ...

Re: Truman's Marketplace

I saw in the Star that Burlington was going there, but had no idea of all the others - that's awesome news!. There's been a lot of progress lately in terms of redevelopment in increasingly-decaying, older suburbs. This is a lot like the currently ongoing renovation of Wyandotte Plaza in KCK, althoug...

Re: Immigration

I wonder what % of NE Side Latinos are actually foreign born immigrants compared to KCK. I could be wrong because this is just from my personal observation, but it seems Argentine and probably also KCMO's Westside are where the more established Latino (mostly Mexican) populations live, at least tho...

Re: "OP Expects Single-Family Boom"

meanwhile, everything north of 87th (?) continues to rot and bleed retail. I can't think of anywhere right off where this is the case. Newer, modern retail developments have been build on the border and adjoining areas of far northern OP though, in Mission and Merriam. The east side of 95th and Met...

^Had they been allowed to tear down the balcony building, I think that would have set a precedent and continued as long as it was profitable and unrestrained.

Re: Company bought part of brookside

I'm no fan of Highwoods, but that website is silly. IIRC, the only thing Highwoods proposed was that building at 47th and Wornall. The rest of that page is conjecture. The "available" buildings listed on the are for commercial rental space. I don't recall, but didn't the original proposal...

Re: Company bought part of brookside

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Brookside is perhaps the nicest, most balanced, and most complete residential neighborhood in Kansas City. Sure, there may be room for a couple of small projects, such as squeezing in a bit more multi-family residential, *maybe* a redeveloped Cosentino's Market prop...

Here is a great article that touches base on some of KC's history relating to what's been talked about here:

That article is part of a series, which can be found here:

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

I think the bigotry, insecurity, and lack of sophistication shown here is pathetic and telling. I have to wonder if some of it is driven by personal self-loathing and compensation. I think urban Kansas City is lacking and could use more things "country" and inviting to country types. I wou...

Re: Streetcar Phase 3

I can't imagine you're being purposefully obtuse.... You didn't make very clear what you were talking about. At first I thought you were suggesting the western end of an E-W line, but now I see your idea is the northern end of a N-S line. While we're dreaming, I think a route that would make the mo...
