Re: Mark Twain Tower going residential?

I'm so thankful that this new plan does not involve lobotomizing the ground floors to add parking and new car holes. #NeverForget

Re: New Broadway Bridge

The 35 direct options includes a spaghetti interchange. The center option didn’t look any better. I want a direct 35 connection but with no interchange. You can't have a direct connection without either an interchange or re-aligning I-35 to come across the river on the new bridge. The latter would ...

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

There are many fallow areas outside the plaza proper that could add neighborhood amenities for that part of the city without riling up the #SaveOurPlaza crowd. I'm all for urban redevelopment anywhere within small-c Kansas City, but we have enough of a hill to climb without poking that hornet nest.

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

The Plaza was limited to a few stories because it was created as an anti-city, wholly-controlled and curated environment by Nichols. I suspect a big reason the buildings face the streets without large surface lots is because people were still accustomed to traditional urban forms. I'd like to see so...

Re: OFFICIAL - Artistry KC (19th and Oak)

That second picture really brings out the highway-esque qualities of Oak. Residents crossing at 19th will need to keep their heads on a swivel for 45-mph red light runners.

Re: Capping the Loop

You can’t make Grand the car sewer if it’s frequently closed for Sprint Center events. Walnut is the relief valve for those instances. If you take away Walnut, then most of the Grand traffic will go on Main and gum up the streetcar. Oak is too far out of the way for people that have Midland or PnL p...

Re: Brookside

For messy to work, I think you need drivers to have an ingrained sense of respect and awareness for people outside of cars. I'm not convinced that is prevalent enough among KC drivers. We still need some combination of physical infrastructure and active enforcement to encourage good behavior.

Re: Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

Making the WR ~950 space garage open on weekends pretty much single handily replaces BAP garage. This and Strata adds ~1600 spaces to public (convention center) supply during weekends. Both are about a 2 block walk from BAP and are actually closer to some aspects of the convention center than BAP i...

The Port might have just been the most convenient docking point. It's possible they floated east towards the current bridge.

I’m old enough to remember when this was rumored to be 4 10-story buildings, before Hyde Park cried about parking.

Re: Do we need to stop building with concrete?

I haven’t done a lot of research on this, but offhand I can’t think of how you would build the foundation of a building without concrete. What about a natural substance with properties similar to concrete that could be extracted from the ground, cut to size, and stacked? The pragmatic answer ...
