Re: Cambria Hotel(SW Corner of 9th & Wyandotte)

I hope it gets built in some form. It’s got nice massing and street presence. It replaces a surface lot.

Isn’t Kemper gone? Thought he was now working in DC?
I should have been more specific. This would be Jonathan, not Crosby.
There’s always a Kemper in the banana stand.

For this stretch where a park cap wouldn’t work, there must still be a way to build a sound-blocking cap to provide a barrier to the noise and sight of the interstate.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

A lot of the rivers with stable levels are controlled by a lock and dam system. The upper Mississippi or the Ohio and its tributaries are domestic examples of this. In Europe, look to the Rhine or Danube. The upper Missouri has a series of dams, but these create large impoundments so it’s not quite ...

Is that different from previous concepts? I recall the alignment following River Front Road in an off-street alignment.

Re: Best Local Trails

Weston Bend State Park has some nice trails, both paved and dirt. You can grab some great views of the river from bluff tops and one trail takes you into Weston proper. Some time in the park is a nice component of a day trip to Weston.

Based on precedent at Reverb, the street-level aspects of the project will be cut first. Watch out for a podium fortress.

Lowering 9 highway and fixing independence should be much higher on our priority list
Agree, but Main doesn’t require state buy-in and money.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Reopening Walnut is a great idea. Is there any chance of the city bringing back Main between 3rd and 5th? I think that’s very unlikely - especially with a development coming at 5th & Main It's possible due to some -- ahem -- staffing changes at City Market and Public Works. Even if that doesn't hap...

Street frontage, along Wyandotte - at least, appears drastically improved from the original rendering. DNA discussed that when they met with the developer early in the project. 13th Street might still be a bit of a disappointment.

If takeout continues its increased popularity, emphasis should be placed on adding more takeout counters or hole-in-the-wall places.

Yes, it would be great to have some buildings that open to it on the east side and more on the west side.

The airship photo looks Isn’t hardly recognizable as Kansas City. I only spotted a few extant buildings at a glance and just a few more notable lost buildings.

I’m gonna call that a serious downgrade. Those marble columns were lovely. Maybe they’re only jacketed?

Is there a story behind the blue ceiling?

DNA tried every angle to get a change from them in their meetings with the neighborhood. This has been one of the most frustrating development processes, aside from maybe the Convention Hotel, since downtown started booming. Having incentives in hand before the development process started really def...

Re: Capping the Loop

I’m thinking of the [street]cars. Without Walnut, overflows from Grand closures will go to Main. Oak. 13th where the closures start goes one way west. The simplest path is to use Main if Walnut is gone If you want to force cars to Oak, you need to move the Grand barricades south of 670 so that they...
