Re: Urban Cores Insane Out Of Control Drivers

Semi-related: Loar moved the Vision Zero ordinance to a joint committee today so the funding could be figured out... or something. Again, KCMO holds public safety and traffic calming to a different standard of scrutiny than it does road building and vehicle LOS. Maybe this thread should be moved int...

Designing in 15 stories of unshaded, south facing curtainwall seems to miss the point of LEED.

Re: Hawthorne Plaza

IIRC when the sidewalk closure ordinance went into place, the city grandfathered all projects with existing permits. This might be that situation. Streetview shows scaffolding over that sidewalk back to 2015, but the sidewalk wasn't blocked as of the April, 2019 image.

Re: Hawthorne Plaza

I've driven by here a few times at night and almost every light in the place has been on. (They must be doing OT work on interior finishes) After seeing it dark for so many years, seeing it lit up is a surreal and wonderful sight.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Games are definitely being played. Council played games with this project last term, so why stop now?
To follow on Dave's point, I do know that MAC is actively negotiating with council in addition to the taxing jurisdictions. I'm cautiously optimistic that it goes through this time.

Re: Brookside

The boulevards are designed to whisk citizens in passenger cars throughout the city, and with some degree of beauty. This was understood by the 1990s redesign at its other terminus at Volker Blvd, where Brookside Blvd gained an alignment to Main Street and the eventual streetcar expansion. That int...

Plans now posted.
Woah, that realignment of BKSBLVD at Meyer. And the parking garage.

The vacation of the north section of BKSTERR and creation of a block-wide parking lot is still a poor solution.

Re: Poll: East of Troost

Hell yeah. My family bought a house between Troost and Paseo 9 years ago. Our current neighborhood is full of people who were priced out of other areas of midtown 5-10 years ago. Kids are thriving in the KCSD, and the worst thing that's happened to us in terms of crime are some bicycles getting stol...

Re: KC's Big 5 needs for 2020s

I don't see anything that says the needs must be something KC the city must accomplish on it's own - it's a list of top five needs, and K-12 PUBLIC schools with good teachers and safe environments is a top 5 need IMO to get families to move to and stay in KCMO. I, for one, am considering a move out...

Re: KC's Big 5 needs for 2020s

At the moment of writing this, the KCMSD seems more stable and well-run than the city government that would theoretically lead the shake-up.

Don’t they have a foundations permit? IIRC you need more than development plans to pour foundations.

(Apologies for the tangent)

Re: Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

I don't know why you would pay for the plans review and permitting fees and then abandon the permit. Foundations and grading can stay the same even if what the building looks like changes. The developers are going to make more then enough to cover a few hundred or thousand in permit fees. The found...

Re: Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

That BM would upload drawings that WR hadn’t approved (as seems to be the case) is very strange. Wondering if WR had approved something and then backed up when the drawings were not received favorably.
