Re: Misc Crossroads News

Apparently so. Maybe garages with buildings on top. Would take all of this with grain of salt as it's a pretty weak 'plan', not a proposal yet, which is why I didn't post this in a dedicated thread. Pretty thin at the moment.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

The same developer doing KC Star old HQ. They don't have much history with building new large buildings it seems, mainly restoring old buildings.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

They'll probably want mega incentives for parking garages, which could be a challenge with new mayor/council... The project would preserve some existing buildings, add new construction, replace parking lots with garages and add density to the underused area on the southern edge of the Crossroads Art...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

A return of a high profile 24 hour diner would be nice, like that Canadian one in P&L's BRGR spot - better quality but still basic diner. The streetcar didn't exist then and population is higher. Maybe at NW corner of 14th/Main across from movie theater?

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Surface lots begone. But no details on what will be developed. A developer plans a massive $350 million mixed-use project in the Crossroads Arts District , according to filings submitted to the city and the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City. The developer plans to preserve and renovate the f...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Foodie halls seem to be the 'lower barrier entry' trend lately and another is coming downtown. KC does seem more obsessed with large restaurant spaces compared to most larger markets though. Rising lease rates might change that over time.

The SE corner of Broadway/Armour has a sign up as 'available'. So if true a restaurant is planned apparently one isn't lined up yet.

What's the status with the foodie hall?

BTW, saw sign in new Wrap It Up spot across from MKE Deli, but looks like they have a long way to go.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Bummer, Freestyle Poke shut down. Was one of my favorite poke places anywhere in US, at least the RM one. They seemed to do a good lunch biz. https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2019/11/19/freestyle-poke-kc-op-restaurant-locations-closed.html Maybe they expanded faster than they can manage? ...

I don't know about MAC as a landlord but crime certainly didn't go up since MAC redid all of Amour. It used to be known as sex offender row and the violent crime was awful until Armour changed to market rate. Some friends who own a Victorian off Armour are thrilled with what MAC has done and are eag...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

So it looks like they plan to run 7-8 at peak for 10-12 minute headways. Ideally they can run same on weekends as well at some point. If free bus occurs, at least there will be other options to get between Plaza/downtown, effectively increasing net headways. And 2024 seems optimistic. https://i.imgu...

Re: Companies moving downtown

STL metro hits as lower cost than KC on most lists. It's not growing like KC is, with quite a bit of domestic out migration. That keeps housing costs lower.

Re: Hotel Overbuilding?

Found this through Aug 2018. Looks like the opening of hotels over time did drop the overall occupancy Q1-2/2018 from Q1-2/2017. But hard to say as there could have been fewer events too in 2018. https://dashboards.mysidewalk.com/state-of-the-downtown-kcmo/invest#c-56788 https://lh3.googleuserconten...

Is that an indication that ebikes are getting higher ridership than pedal only bikes? Or a plan to evenly balance the type of bikes available?

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

Would think some burbs will eventually bite depending on success of KCMO proper. They'd apparently need to cover the lost fare. Dave, have others shown any hint of interest? NKC (edit: and Gladstone) seem to be a natural and would think KCK would want to find a way. BTW, Prospect MAX starts first we...
