Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

Pedestrian spaces do not inherently draw pedestrians. They need to be in spaces where the pedestrian traffic is already intense. For instance, Times Square’s pedestrianization works because it’s a tourist attraction in Midtown Manhattan, so there were always going to be crowds no matter what. KC, l...

Re: COVID19

I've been roaming Georgia and Florida recently and am not seeing mask compliance as high as MO. Was in Cape Girardeau last fall, and despite Trumpism mask mocking, compliance was high in Cape even inside restaurants (not eating). Not the case in much of the SE (outside the core cities) where many do...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Yeah given that most downtown hotels are more dependent on events and suburban interstate hotels are doing better with road travelers, not surprising downtown is lower than metro. But not great that metro is performing below US avg - although Jan will be lower in most winter areas that aren't winter...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

Was not at all talking about growth, but a desirable walkable neighborhood to live in. It's subjective of course but RM has a great urban neighborhood balance and has a free horizontal elevator to access some things it doesn't have, with that access expanding soon. Xroads has even more opportunity b...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

River Market is not only the hottest in KC IMO it's a great neighborhood by any urban living standard, with a free horizontal elevator to rest of downtown. But this list was likely created by car dependency minded people.

If the case, is a bummer that even though KC is recovering quite well, the entertainment/hospitality industries are still struggling to hang in there.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

If the stadium was built in such a way where the base of it under the stands contained retail spaces on all four sides (or three if it's built against the interstate), I think it could possible benefit. The retail businesses would be open all during the year, so there wouldn't be dead blocks and lo...

Re: Downtown office vacancy

If WFA/WFH momentum sticks permanently to some degree, downtown cores that shift to more residential could potentially offset this some, especially if many/most downtown residents have WFA/WFH jobs. That would help keep the streets busy with a daytime population, though not at same level given far m...

Re: COVID19

Not obvious that seasonal is a factor entirely as US flu season tends to peak in Feb , not drop. Global (varied seasons) infection rates are going down including southern hemisphere. Partial immunity buildup is one possible explanation for global decline. But doesn't entirely explain why KCMO and ST...

Re: COVID19

Google Maps has a COVID layer that shows 7-day moving average of new COVID cases per 100K population. Is interesting that even though MO has supposedly been behind US with vaccinations , MO as a state is well below US avg for new cases, one of lowest for recent new cases per 100K pops. As of Feb 14...
