Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

Developers of proposed 25-story KC tower scale back incentives request The updated deal cuts out a $27 million investment in city funds that would have resulted in the city owning a 28% stake in the project. However, the city still will be a financial backstop for a $36 million parking garage, but i...

Good to hear it will have ground level retail. Hopefully the garage entrance doesn't face Main. If they get incentives, the City should require public shared usage for garage.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

BTW, ever since submitting a comment to Streetcar Org about inefficiency of streetcar at Union Station waiting until car behind reaching US they've starting to now release the US car when the car behind is a couple stops back, at least more often. So when 3 are in service, 3 are actually moving more...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Yeah the Library stop is so close to Metro Center stop that long term it makes more sense to get rid of Library stop and keep N Loop, about right balance between RM and Metro Center. However if free bus happens and a real free express bus occurs approximately along streetcar extension then may as we...

The glass side is fine (ideally wouldn't have looked like Cordish buildings) but the concrete walls, ugh.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

What are the anticipated growth numbers for once the extension is online. I could see it tripling if they can keep the time under 15 minutes. They'll probably need to get rid of a few downtown stops too when the expansions occur. Very close together is OK for now given it's like a downtown circulat...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Would think number of downtown events make up most of the difference. And number of bad weather days per month relative to other years. More residents and hotels opening up otherwise should cause an average increase. And looking at annual average it does look to increase each year. Sept is odd, mayb...

Despite the lego block design (it's fine) functionally this is one of the best RM infill projects, up to street with retail at corners. And looks like garage entrance to rear.

A friend worked for them recently as an IT architect and told me they are stuck in the past with too many legacy systems that need to be modernized yet they are investing in other areas, possibly the wrong areas. However he said some key Epic systems also are not as modernized as they should be. Pro...

Re: Gateway Terminal (container port)

IIRC the MO River barge traffic ended for a period because of a dam in S Dakota. They controlled the water flow and it wasn't consistent enough to allow barge traffic. Not sure but think I recall something like that.

Re: Gateway Terminal (container port)

Barge traffic between KC/STL returned a few years ago but it doesn't seem to be as much as it used to be (anecdotally), which is surprising. Always thought that if KC/STL Amtrak line goes away, might open the door for boat cruise? Restrictions? edit: Found this on MO River freight traffic... https:/...

Re: 50s/Main development

I suggested to Jonathan Justice years ago about targeting Xroads with a vision for an Xroads James Beard District but maybe his investor lived closer to 50th/Main and wanted it to be there. Hope he can come up with a new concept and find an investor. I do think he would do consistently well in Xroads.

I once worked out of the Plexpod on Main in Xroads, which has no parking. Street parking was enforced at the time and many did get tickets. A couple small companies moved out of downtown because of 'parking problems'.

It went downhill because McClatchy is struggling and focused on larger markets but not really investing much in those papers either. The better reporters likely left because McClatchy couldn't keep or afford them.

McClatchy stock listing recently at risk.
